console players have been getting fucked for ages tbf, but (and this is gonna be a hot take to some) if you're still buying a console in the big 26 you're just begging for a pegging. there's no reason to buy a console that isn't a switch anymore, and i think that's also why the switch sells so well

also like. people still haven't realised that digital games often times don't have drm either, it's optional. most steam games i own myself come without drm and i've made use of that plenty when i had to emulate shit. people just can't fathom a standalone .exe with game files anymore for some reason

like. im an avid vinyl collector, because i care about the records i buy on vinyl a lot, not because someone makes more money from it. if i wanted that, id just buy the music digitally, it's tenfold what they'd make off me streaming their stuff and it's essentially negligible in environmental impact

anyway, being a bit of an elden ring hater i think this might take the cake for my fave soulslike of the decade once it releases, it's so fun, so versatile already, the animations and mechanics are fun and smooth, i'm really looking forward to the full release, i can only recommend it

i do like the little lore that's been given, the fact that people started building temples and such out of the bones of an old god's corpse that crashed down from heaven, it gives such a nice contrast in the environment bc there's just plain ivory structures among really dark and gloomy landscapes

my only gripe with it so far is that one specific enemy is... so woefully mistimed that it's almost impossible to dodge incoming attacks from it, and also the fact that that enemy specifically appears in areas where there's other enemies that deal up to 5 forced poison stacks when you kill them

i did just about anything you could do in the beta, unlocked everything, cleansed everything, explored everything, got every item, there's def some really cool mechanics in there with the many seals that you get so far (parry <3) and the tarstones giving you special abilities, effects or other stuff

Mortal Shell II Open Beta saw someone play this and decided to just try it myself, because it looked really fun and boy it sure was combat feels really nice so far, it looks stunning, the aesthetic is such a cool mix of DS/Bloodborne/Scorn, definitely lacks the gripes i had with soulslikes so far
