I’m putzing around the house with Power to the People Fest streaming on TV. I know this is a very small thing, but I’m really glad so many people around the country/world get to see how beautiful Merriweather is. Glorious venue basically in my back yard.

Shredding every "reason" NCTE gave to support its decision to de-charter CCCC, this is a clear call for writing studies to find a different path forward. Sign on and let's build the future of the field together.

All right, gang. Got #4C27 acceptance today and am planning on going on one last ride with this conference because I've got some stuff to say. If we've been mutuals for a while and haven't met yet, this is a great time to change that.

The fact that this article comes out a day after the NCTE’s termination of CCCC (a major conference focused on English and Communication), makes it clear that Corporate America is waging war on the Humanities. Declaring war on the Humanities is part of the authoritarian fascist’s playbook.

This is because NCTE complied with fascists and has a partnership with Google, while CCCC continued to advocate for anti-racism and caution against AI. I just emailed customerservice@ncte.org to request a refund and you should, too. Absolutely devastating.

I am positively shook. After finally finding a professional home in CCCC, a decade and a half into my academic career, that has been ripped away. CCCC is, of course, so much more than this, but man I can't help but feel this personally right now.

Hey #infoLit , #mediaStudies, & other college writing-adjacent folks: The parent organization of the CCCC seems to be considering folding this long-standing, truly discipline-defining group into a broader group, likely diluting it. If you've benefited from the CCCC's work, consider reaching out?

Totally get that. It just didn’t feel all that fresh for me. Well executed, but I’ve seen a Monkey’s Paw story plenty of times. I know that’s probably super reductive and I’m expecting to like It more when I watch it on streaming, but that’s all I’ve got right now.

Writing is an invention that is about 5000 years old. No one killed & revived it in 6 months. This is next level absurdity. It's time people learn how writing actually works from people who study it all day, every day. Prioritize the funding of writing programs. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/30/u...

The Infowars news is funny, yes. But more importantly, it is an outright rebuke of Alex Jones' evil. It's testament to the strength and resilience of the Sandy Hook families who survived this bullshit for more than a decade as well as the Onion, which didn't give up on this for the last 18 months.

I feel like now is a good time to share this again
A black and white pic of Iranian-French graphic novelist Marjane Satrapi holding a cigarette in her hands. Beside her pic is a text of her words:

"The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same..."

can’t count the number of times I’ve arrived at a conclusion much better than I originally intended simply by writing. having the hazy outline of an idea and then foisting the rest onto a machine means you never get there. worse, you never develop the instincts or faculties necessary to get there
Writing is not always fun and anyone who says it’s fun all the time is lying. It can be grueling and frustrating—perhaps at times verging on something you loathe—but feeling those things ultimately means you understand your words are a representation of who you are in the world. You understand that they reflect on you, and it’s your responsibility to make them as good as they can be. If you really, truly hate writing, if the only way you can do it is by using a plagiarism machine, maybe it’s just not for you.
Sometimes a thought you love pops into your head and you scramble to open a blank email or your notes app or even grab a piece of paper to jot it down before it flies away. These moments of inspiration aren’t just a result of fishing in your pool of existing knowledge; they include a little bit of magic. A sprinkle of the unidentifiable zest that makes your writing something that only you—not the ‘you’ processed and interpreted by a machine—could create. Your words are a product of a specific moment in time, and that’s what makes them distinct. (I originally used the word “special” and then I changed it to “unique,” ultimately landing on “distinct” because it felt right. That’s the process.)
