Yes! And I strongly urge us all to eschew a politics of contempt for anyone who voted for T. We can help create space for those who are not die-hard racists, Nazis, and white Christian nationalists to come out of the fog of repression.

CCJ was spearheaded by John Arnold, of Enron fame, who played a major funding role in so-called “reform” efforts that have expanded the reach of policing and carceral control. ASU got buckets of $ for CJ studies from right-wing billionaires. Some liberal folk have signed on. Carceral con.

The death penalty is a moral abomination. State-sanctioned barbarism pushed by incompetent morons and sanctioned by the Supreme Court. Absolute ghoul shit. www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...
The lone woman on Tennessee's death row was still alive after she was administered two lethal injections, her lawyer said in a motion seeking to halt her execution Wednesday night, a stunning development after the Supreme Court had stepped in to allow the state to put her to death.
At 8:26 p.m. local time, witnesses said
"executioners had injected both syringes of lethal injection chemicals and Pike is still alive and snoring," her lawyers said in a federal court filing.
They said Pike "has not lost consciousness and still has a heartbeat," and that curtains to the death chamber "have gone down twice."

“The worst of the worst” is a catch phrase used to employ fear to increase policing and carceral control, primarily of marginalized and vulnerable groups. It is a criminalizing phrase that is endlessly elastic and justifies all sorts of carceral expansion. Trump uses it now.

They quoted me in this New Yorker piece about AI today. www.newyorker.com/culture/the-...
“Let’s say there’s a world or time line I exist in where A.I. has been subject to regulation. It is ethical. It has no footprint environmentally,” the novelist Jeff VanderMeer, a prominent critic of A.I., told me over the phone. “With those guardrails in place, would I read an A.I. book? All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

We should understand this as an intentionally criminalizing move against queers. Along with other measures, it accelerates demolition of the framework of civil rights in order to replace it with processes of criminalization against groups that challenge supremacist governance.

RIP Bob Mackie, who designed this perfect outfit for Carol Burnett's memorable turn as Scarlett O'Hara on her weekly comedy hour. (Confesson: I have the Barbie Doll limited edition of Burnett in this outfit.)
Photo shows Carol Burnett and Harvey Korman in a "Gone With the Wind" skit on her weekly TV show. Burnett is in an outfit made by the legendary designer Bob Mackie. Hilariously, it features old green curtains and drapery accessories, a hideous green and gold headdress, and, best of all, curtain rods jutting out from her shoulders. Making a mockery of "Gone With the Wind"? Yes, please!

Dolly Parton logged a combined total of 115 years of union membership. Throughout her working life, the “9 to 5” singer/songwriter carried the union cards of two major unions: The American Federation of Musicians Local 257 in Nashville — for 58 years. SAG-AFTRA — for 57 years. HAPPY LABOR DAY!

There's something at the Emanuel nexus of neoliberal triangulation (further shredding the social contract) & supporting police state methods that reveals his anti-democratic leanings. He can't be president, but he can be a ruthless power broker in the way Harris or Shapiro or others can never be.
