🌍✨ EuroPython just ended. In many hallway chats and community organisers open space, one issue came up again and again: Sponsorship. Now that AI is taking the spotlight, I’m asking: Who's left behind? My thoughts here: ✍️ georgiker.com/blog/is-ai-l... #EuroPython #OpenSource #AI #Python #community

Thanks to everyone for taking part in the #CPython sprint at #EuroPython2025! Across all CPython repos this weekend: * 122 PRs created (69 the previous weekend) * 79 PRs merged (65) * countless invaluable in-person discussions (a few?) #EuroPython #Python #sprint #Prague

Looking down on many tables of sprinters.

An array of snacks and sweets including one with a written warning poster: "VERY SPICY. EAT ONE A TIME. CAROLINA RIPPERS. WASH FINGERS." Plus two types of Finnish salmiakki which should have a warning, and a big rainbow unicorn balloon.

This week, what is a new thing you learned in #python ? Can be any tool/language feature/module/community, anything?

Dear #Python friends, do you write/use any Python code which deals with #DNS somehow? If yes, then can you please tell me the usecases?

What happens when you stop smoking? #NoTobacco

An infographic titled “When You Stop Smoking.” It includes three timeframes showing the health benefits of quitting smoking, each with text and a heart illustration:

After 1 year: The risk of coronary heart disease is half that of a smoker’s.

Between 5–15 years: Stroke risk is reduced to that of a non-smoker.

After 15 years: The risk of coronary heart disease is that of someone who has never smoked.

The just-announced NIST SP 800-38D Rev. 1 Call for Comments asks how NIST should address the low message limit of AES-GCM with random nonces (yay!): whether by defining Rijndael-256-GCM, or by blessing a nonce-key generation method. It cites: @soatok.bsky.social, Shay Gueron, and me. Love it.

My local nightclub is raising money to replace their toilets. If you sponsor a toilet, they will engrave a name on it. Anyone's name. So if you have $5k and someone you truly hate, all I'm saying is that you have the opportunity to do something really funny right now.

lifehack: if you keep every single type of cable you’ve ever had just in case you might need it later (good move), putting each cable in a labeled ziploc keeps them from getting tangled and lets them slide over each other when you go digging
