That one part climbing up the mountain before getting into the ice tower took me like 3 hours on crit lol it's so long and there's so many enemies that can just one-shot you if you're not paying attention

Nah, I actually totally understand the puzzle, but I'm pretending I lack object permanence to fuck up their data collection on purpose. Next week I'm going to spend a whole day acting like I can do basic multiplication, then never do it again.

The puritan "no porn history allowed" mindset of anime-inspired western art is so funny to me cos' you'll read about the most prolific anime artists of Japan and it'll be like "Yeah, she started her career selling hardcore incest doujinshi at Comiket."

I'm glad I spent all day equal parts dying and having fun because it means I missed seed news. What do you mean they're making more seed. How many times do you have to make shit before going "yep it's shit"

and this series just so happens to be very long at a time in my life where I really really need the distraction so yeah I'll dive into it deep lol. especially now that there are mechs involved I wanna see those more

dyynne 🐏 @kurth91.bsky.social · 11h

I've said this before I think but it bears repeating: something that is unequivocably good and everyone agrees? boring to me. something that is awful dogshit and everyone agrees? also boring. but something that is both good AND bad? now that's what I'm all about

120

dyynne 🐏 @kurth91.bsky.social · 11h

anyways I'm probably starting cs2 like tomorrow or monday at the latest it's hard to explain how much of a grip this series has on me even tho I just described the previous game as painful lol

120

dyynne 🐏 @kurth91.bsky.social · 12h

I also don't really like how they keep introducing characters and then going "actually they are the number 1 Big Puncher in all of Punchertown they can punch so hard it cleaves mountains in half" but it's also very silly how often they do it so I forgive it on behalf of being funny

000

dyynne 🐏 @kurth91.bsky.social · 12h

also I really liked a lot of the characters but I really disliked how the gameplay went, too. crossbell arc already kinda lost a little bit of the control you had in building and choosing quartz but this game was even worse about it to the point where I just gave up like less than halfway through

100

dyynne 🐏 @kurth91.bsky.social · 12h

anyway I'm glad I finally get to see the mechs that's why I started playing these, and I'm glad I can finally actually see something set after azure at all it's fucked up they gave me a cliffhanger that good and then dropped this game after it

100

dyynne 🐏 @kurth91.bsky.social · 12h

here's hoping getting all of that out of the way means the next 3 games in this arc can just actually have a plot where things happen unimpeded, right? we already did all the character introducing and worldbuilding, right? we don't have to do it again for all of erebonia... RIGHT?!

100

dyynne 🐏 @kurth91.bsky.social · 12h

I like the characters a lot and I'm glad the game finally actually did anything at all at the very end, that makes me excited for the sequel, but that might be worst game in this series for me so far. I already expected it'd be hard to follow up azure but that was rough

100

dyynne 🐏 @kurth91.bsky.social · 12h

my thoughts are uh. I get what it was going for and that it was setting a lot of stuff up but this game was deeply upsetting. nothing fucking happened, the only things that ever happened were things that happened in azure it was kinda infuriating

100

dyynne 🐏 @kurth91.bsky.social · 12h

that was a wet fart of a finale but I'm gonna go ahead and say I beat cold steel I lol

110

dyynne 🐏 @kurth91.bsky.social · 12h

yeah I'm just gonna assume this says "you beat the game waow" and I'll download a clear save I guess

000

dyynne 🐏 @kurth91.bsky.social · 12h

y'know I was almost starting to actually enjoy the game but now it just crashes consistently after the final boss

100

dyynne 🐏 @kurth91.bsky.social · 13h

that plot twist would probably have been a lot cooler if they hadn't literally explained it before it happened and also if we didn't get 4 different characters saying "yep I already knew it" before it happened lol

the reason to play video games is to contract other people's diseases and the reason to make them is to spread the mutated forms of those diseases to others. video game cannot exist without this beautiful and terrible life cycle

Someone just reblogged this on tumblr with this tag and I just fucking died I've been on this shit for over a decade and it's only getting worse

written about this before but whatever.

Videogames as an artform have a problem with nostalgia. Not that people shouldn’t have nostalgia. Or that games shouldn’t draw from the past. But instead the weight we give to nostalgia.

When people go back to enjoy old games, we assume it’s a nostalgia thing. Do people assume that with books? Or movies? Or music? People certainly do go back in time with those mediums for nostalgia! It happens! I know when my sister is listening to certain cheesy old boyband pop or punk she’s often having a musical nostalgia trip! That’s cool! But we still don’t ASSUME, CONSTANTLY thats why people go back to stuff.

People like old stuff because it’s cool and interesting. It’s historic. People go watch Metropolis still, but how many people alive could even be nostalgic for a movie like that?

I almost want to see the word Nostalgia excised from discussions about video games – not because nostalgia is bad but because we over use it to the point where it’s actually harmful I think.

I mean I made IWBTG and am making an NES style game right now and even for me, the obsession with ‘nostalgia’ seems crazy.

Old stuff is cool. I know this because I see a lot of you kids on my tumblr feed talking about games I know you didn’t grow up with. It’s like finding your parents record or CD collection. Thinking the primary greatness of old games is bringing back memories of eating cereal and playing games on a saturday morning is a great injustice, even if those memories for some are perfectly worthwhile things.
