Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 11/09/2026Not only is the video itself insane but it’s also very clearly AI slop. They couldn’t even be bothered to find a real person to make the blasphemous Trump cult worship video. 000
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 22/08/2026One could make a similar argument that getting rid of something you think is bad doesn’t always mean getting something you think is better. Usually decisions made with bad motives result in bad outcomes, even if you don’t entirely disagree with the initial decision. 040
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 23/07/2026I’m all for holding the Trump admin accountable, but how are questions about the WH ballroom relevant to the CFO of the Department of Housing and Urban Development? Surely there are questions related to HUD worth asking or others to whom those very legitimate ballroom ?’s would be better directed. 000
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 08/07/2026I didn’t know how to do the underlying math I was asking it to do, but I had a general sense of what the outputs should look like and knew when to challenge and push back. LLMs are not magic, it often can’t self diagnose errors. You have to be able to understand where it might have gone wrong. 010
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 08/07/2026Getting things right requires knowing how to properly frame the prompt and knowing how to critically evaluate the output. We should be teaching students how to use LLMs effectively, which I think largely comes down to teaching logic. 210
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 08/07/2026I thought AI was a scourge on higher ed until I used it for a personal finance project and realized the incredible utility. But I also found that effective use of LLMs requires analytical and critical thinking. AI still gets a lot wrong. For meaningful work products using AI effectively is a skill. 100
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 06/07/2026Whether FIFA’s reversal was the right decision is a matter of legitimate debate. But your article glosses over how VAR‘s intervention and use of slo-mo replay directly contravened FIFA’s own official guidance on how VAR should be utilized. VAR review is commonplace, how it was used there was not. 000
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 05/07/2026Yeah, I think you’re right that using slo-mo was not a blatant and explicit violation of the protocols. But it clearly wasn’t in line with best practice guidance either. So FIFA likely still factored it into the “totality” of the situation, seemingly along with a “good behavior” reprieve for Balo. 010
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 05/07/2026This guidance seems less ambiguous: “normal speed should be used for the ‘intensity’ of an offence”. If the slo-mo replay formed the entire basis of the VAR’s justification for a red card check, it would still seem the protocol wasn’t followed correctly? 110
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 05/07/2026A reading of FIFA’s own rules made it clear they got it wrong. What was at issue was less the challenge itself but rather how the VAR protocol was applied. What’s shocking is that FIFA would actually right its own wrong, although it seems they’re doing so without directly admitting any fault. 110
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 03/07/2026It’s also worth noting that the Bosnia match viewership peaked at 31.8M, which is higher than the 2015 WWC Final peak viewership of 30.9M. So I think it’s likely that Fox’s statement is true once you equalize the comparison. 000
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 03/07/2026That may not be correct. The 2015 WWC viewership figure you cite was Match Only. The Bosnia match viewership figure includes Pre-Match which likely drags the figure down. So Fox appears to be using a lower figure for 2015, likely for an apples to apples time adjusted “broadcast window” comparison. 100
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 03/07/2026In your mind is everyone always guilty by association? Many people believe, whether it is Iran or the U.S., that these teams can represent something better than the government regime itself. I don’t root against Iran because of the sins committed by their government, nor will I do so for the U.S. 000
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 03/07/2026Some of the other participants also represent fascist regimes. So I assume you would also argue, regardless of where the World Cup were being held, that everyone should condemn the Iranian team for representing an oppressive fascist regime? As you point out, a choice the players made consciously. 000
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 03/07/2026So does your logic extend to every team participating in the World Cup? Iran? Bosnia? Brazil? South Korea? DR Congo? Or do you just think the U.S. team is worthy of special condemnation? 010
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 03/07/2026In the same thread he expressed disbelief at anyone cheering for the U.S. men’s soccer team, as if we’re supposed to punish this group of athletes who have nothing to do with U.S. government policy solely because they’re representing their country - as is every other team at the World Cup. 020
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 02/07/2026IF the U.S. had been able to appeal, I think their appeal would center less on whether or not the foul was red card worthy, and more on whether the VAR protocol that led to the issuance of the red card was improperly applied. I think they would have had a strong case there. 010

Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 12/05/2026Steve, how does the Alabama decision differ substantively from SCOTUS’ application of the Purcell Principle in Abbott v LULAC? How does the majority rationalize applying the principle then but not now? Or I suppose it doesn’t even bother to because “shadow docket”? 010
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 11/05/2026I think we crossed this threshold long ago, but a decision like this should shatter the notion that this court has any independent credibility remaining. And every Democratic politician must now publicly acknowledge that major court reform is the only remedy that remains. 0267
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 10/05/2026Actually, the exact opposite has proven to be true. Part of why our democracy is in peril is because blue states chose to unilaterally disarm in the gerrymandering wars and now several of those states have no meaningful way to counter GOP gerrymandering. This can only be solved at the federal level. 010
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 08/05/2026The swiftness with which the Republican establishment moves to seize power is matched only by the slugishness with which the Democratic establishment moves to counter them. 010

Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 13/04/2026Well the problem as I see it is that you don’t win big unless you have something big to run on. And I think Dems need to run on major structural reform. Not just getting some small victories to move the needle “at the margins”. 000
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 13/04/2026And the For the People Act would have been a step in the right direction but did not go nearly far enough. We don’t need more transparency when it comes to big money in politics, we need to eliminate it altogether. Our politicians have been captured by big money interests and that needs to end. 110
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 13/04/2026Sorry to say that our democracy has been significantly weakened by entrenched, out of touch politicians. A 10-term representative in their 80’s does no one any good and committee leadership being largely seniority based means our weakest representatives are in the most important roles. 210
Kyle @ktumd10.bsky.social · 12/04/2026Agreed, it’s clear the current Dem establishment is not up to the task of saving us from the nightmare that is rising authoritarianism in America.
