Something AI is responsible for that doesn't get enough talk: How, when it scrapes a website to illegally steal everything on it, it uses up a ton of its bandwidth allotment, crashing it or racking up massive fees for site owners.

Just go to therapy, bro.
DAVID JIANG, COFOUNDER and CEO of smart glasses company Viture, tells me about how he used to yell at his kid.

His 10-year-old son played tennis. During tournaments, Jiang says he had a habit of shouting and criticizing his son’s mistakes as he played. He wanted to apply pressure to make him succeed—it was the way he’d been taught to raise kids, after all. It made sense.

But then, unprompted, his smart glasses sent him a message. The AI assistant in his company’s newest wearable had picked up on what he was doing, recognized that his behavior wasn’t helpful, and messaged him about what he should do differently. Stop shouting. Stop criticizing. Just be there, be present, and show that you support your son. That worked, Jiang says, and being called out like that has supposedly made him a better father and improved the relationship with his kid, all thanks to his yet-to-be-released Vonder AI glasses.

This "Cliff's Notes" approach to scholarship degrades everything it touches. It doesn't just "oversimplify" scholarship—it *misrepresents* it. It filters the original contributions of scientists through an algorithm that files off all the *particularity* of a work—what's left isn't science anymore.

Another question for you...if you've got the time. How about exporting out of arxiv? Not all of them have a DOI displayed, so it only grabs a few. And when I try to go with the default web connector option, it only extracts 10 random citations of my 42.

World's cutest coworker just clocked in! Say hello to Bree: therapy dog, book muse, and the biggest floof we've ever met. Bree visited YDL today with Jared (the proud author behind "Paws of Comfort"), and our whole team is still smiling. 🐾
Four Ypsilanti District Library staff members stand together while one holds up a fluffy tricolor Sheltie/Collie-mix dog named Bree, who is being presented facing the camera with her front paws dangling down. The staff member holds a copy of the children's book 'Paws of Comfort: Bree's Helping Adventures' next to the dog. The group stands in a library hallway with a bulletin board of flyers behind them.

349 records. It's very glitchy! I run web connector and it pulls in the first 75. But then I move to the next page of results and do the same thing. It APPEARS to run, but the results don't show up in my Zotero. Only the first 75.

This is not what slop refers to. I'm not being purely academic about this. The conflation does matter. Because this is a type of conglation that people do to make any reasonable critique of "A.I." seem overwrought. "Oh they said the same thing about the internet!" And it is not true.
