Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Not that Noah & Saskia does not date in other ways (some of it is weird and creepy by today's standards) but 22 years on it feels like the one that understood where the world was going and NY-LON, for all its great strengths, that feels like it is still in the 20th century. 000
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Noah & Saskia instead is entirely focussed in what it means to exist in the internet age, how people connect over vast distances, what it feels to talk to online, what an avatar means for the way you percieve yourself and others see you. 101
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026The reason for that is it NY-LON still is in a pre-digital mode. They have mobile phones but are entirely used to do a phone call, one person in light, one person in dark. Computers are things people work on. Even someone moving from London to Bristol is treated as an insurmountable distance. 100
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026They often explore similar ideas, about how people from different backgrounds navigate distance and alternative friend groups whilst supporting each other. Using interesting techniques to demonstrate this. Yet, whilst NY-LON is the superior show on most objective qualities, it also feels more dated. 100
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026NY-Lon was prestige romantic drama about the relationship between a banker from London and a record store clerk\night school tutor from New York. Noah and Saskia is a children's drama about the evolving relationship between a musician from Australia and web comic writer\artist from England. 100
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I was just thinking about two shows I liked from 2004 with similar total runtime that approached the same concept of technology and long distance relationships but very differently, capturing a specific moment in time. NY-LON and Noah & Saskia. 100
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 22/09/2026I keep finding that, unfortunately, I am being pleasantly surprised by low expectations of Burnham. That he seems fascism-lite than full head first into it like the last 5 prime ministers. "Oh actually acknowledging that land grabs are illegal? Who knew?" 010
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Does it have some flaws, yeah sometimes, but just makes it more crunchy for me. It has such a great message at the core: "Don't allow your oppressors define you, win by changing the narrative." 010
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 03/09/2026Even the Rippers may look weird due to 90s makeup but they are an example of the ideas the film is exploring, they were turned into monstrous weapons but they survive by refusing to use guns and engaging in music and dance. 100
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 03/09/2026I put on Tank Girl for the first time as a bit of a laugh and...OMG...I honestly think it might be one of my top 10 favourite films, no joke. It is essentially using the style of live action looney tunes film to explore complex issues. 120

Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 26/08/2026Myst. The joy of adventure games for me is exploring and building a narrative. It is so cold and abstract. 000
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 23/08/2026I found Prime had the original international theatrical version of Blade Runner available and decided to rewatch it. Honestly, I still think it works well even with the added ending. 000

Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 15/08/2026AITA for sending payment to my overseer for lack of water. 030
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 15/08/2026Much like X-Men fans debate the consistency of the characterisation of Magneto post Fatal Attractions, we have debated the nature of Paul Robinson's arcs 😆 120
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 30/07/2026If you got to write a superhero comic what would it be? And would you put in one of your own characters as a cameo? 110

Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 30/07/2026Instead would have had Kid Omega have been broken out of prison by Esme, found Magneto broken hiding somewhere, got him on Kick and get him to kidnap and replace the real Xorn. Then, when Magneto brought back have to do the long work of Truth and Justice. 000
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 30/07/2026What i am not convinced by though is that, if he was that far gone he created this bizarre long game with Xorn. If I was changing it myself I would have recottened but not how was actually done. I would have still had Magento have attacked New York, but Xorn being real until Planet X part 1. 100
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 30/07/2026So I can see E for Extinction driving him to get addicted to Kick and going off the deep end. That idea actually to me makes an interesting point, particularly when combined with Darkest Nights epilogue about the problem of following idealised heroes and old doctrines. 100
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 30/07/2026In my rereading of X-men comics reached the end of the Grant Morrison run and I do think Planet X doesn't work but for different reasons than most. Magneto had been going to more extremes since Fatal Attractions and was prepping for war on Genosha before he was stopped. 110

Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 21/07/2026Like even if it is indeed as awful as the actual comic of Avengers vs. X-Men, seeing what the awfulness looks like in IRL is appealing. And I always have X-Men '97 if I want actually good comic book action :) 001
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 21/07/2026Avengers: Doomsday very much gives me the vibes of the actual comics crossover events: 1. This has too much to do it justice 2. 90% sure will end up being unsatisfied by the end and feeling like I wasted my time and money 3. But darn if doesn't hook me with all my fannish senses and want to see! 120

Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 07/07/2026You ended up being right on both counts! I have been enjoying it but I have had to take a break after the first episode of Season 2. It is good but phew is it heavy! 110

Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 25/06/2026People keep saying to me with Andor either: "OMG, you are going to love it!" Or "Nah, won't work for you at all." Never a middle ground. I will probably try it at one point but given I'm not really a Star Wars fan & other series I've tried I have bounced off of, it keeps being put on the backburner. 100
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 24/06/2026Okay thanks that's good to hear. Even though I actually preferred Duncan over D'Onofrio, he does a very good job as Kingpin, and liked their games. And yeah I know it won't be escapism. If I was looking for that would probably be trying out Ducktales. 010
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 24/06/2026Even when someone gets excited about novelty and really mean it, it is often a case of "new to them". On the flip side to this, many major SF works were just taking techniques from literary fiction 20 years before, and applying them to future worlds. 1120
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 24/06/2026Sometimes I think though it is a case where some fans actually didn't like the craft or direction, but they are not able to distinguish, so assume it is really a lack of novelty. 040
Kris Vyas-Myall @krisvm.bsky.social · 24/06/2026There is a weird obsession in SF of constant novelty. However, when you look at the history of the SF, most heavily acclaimed works were not new concepts, rather applying existing ideas really well, whilst the earlier poorer originators get forgotten. 4181
