Our bike path made it easy to make a quick unplanned stop at Granville Island today, where we saw some art, got food, saw the leaves changing color... and bike parking made it even more accessible/easy. More cities should copy the bike valet concept in Vancouver BC 🇨🇦 it’s seriously amazing.

Free Secure Bike Parking!
Open 10am -
1. Roll your bike up to the attendant.
2. Take your claim ticket (don't lose it!)
3. Enjoy the rest of your day knowing your bike, e-bike, scooter or cargo trailer is secured in our lockup (no lock needed)!

I guess we found the limit of our cargo bike range (42km) when it’s loaded down with two kids and a days worth of adventure gear. Kids had to get out and help push it up the last (small) hill before our house.

There is zero trace of a real person by this name on the internet and no social media presence before Nov 2024. A 63-year-old who served in the British military, ran a rural estate, served in Iraq, and lost a wife in Afghanistan... and nothing online?

When I see binary arguments about AI being the holy grail or completely evil, they are missing nuance. We should spend time more time talking about the companies, governments, institutions, etc, as any tool (even a broom! 🧹) can be used for good or evil.

Full text: Emergent phenomena cannot be directly commanded, but this does not mean leadership doesn't matter. Like physical health, ethos requires daily practice and constant discernment. Every day, ethos either strengthens or decays. There is no steady state.
This discipline matters now more than ever. If an organization's ethos is misaligned, any technology platform it creates will amplify that misalignment.
Take a moment to reflect on the organization you hold most dear:
Does it have an ethos, or is it drifting without one? Does it fight for human fourishing or against it? Is it creating value or extracting it?
Are you shaping its ethos, or is it shaping yours?

a delightful sentence 😆
A photo of book text. Highlighted section: Meanwhile, many of the "best practices" everyone eagerly adopts are younger than the trees in your local neighborhood park.

Full text on page: When leaders today consider their organizational structure, they're typically guided by lawyers, MBAs, and investment bankers who confidently prescribe "best practices" that sound good on paper but are quite weak in practice. These advisors seem impressively credentialed and speak with absolute certainty about what's required for
success.
But before someone listens to this advice, I always ask: Are you
sure you're smarter than a Nobel laureate?
Because the Kroghs worked out an organizational solution a century ago that has demonstrably succeeded through every economic cycle, war, rechnological disruption, and market pressure imaginable.
Meanwhile, many of the "best practices" everyone eagerly adopts are younger than the trees in your local neighborhood park.
