Pete is lost in terms of modern war. I use the example of this outgunned Ukrainian army officer who successfully terrorized a Russian unit for weeks because she "did the math." At the time, someone commented, "yeah, in combat, 'I did the math' beats 'I can do 100 pushups' every time."
Ukrainian female soldier: Okay, I said the idea is this: There is enough time to empty one full can of 32 grenades and be gone by the time the return mortar fire reaches us. I did the math.

Fun fact: the U.S. House can sue a sitting president with a simple majority vote. If the Democrats retake the chamber, they should do more than just "investigate" Trump's corruption. They should sue him in federal court for the illegal ballroom, Qatari jet, and more.

Remembering Amazon’s early days when it was losing a lot of money, it never had a negative gross profit, even with all the discounting.

The compute costs are endemic, and will not magically evaporate. If you view them as cost of goods sold, there is no path to a positive gross profit.

It's not just in the sense that the law must apply equally to all people and in the sense that many who committed similar crimes will walk. But it's imperative we make several prominent examples of Trump officials for no other reason that their lives will serve as a warning to others.

Scratchy drawing of a two panel comic.
Panel 1:
Titled:“How we thought robots would kill us”
A robot shoots a human to death with a gun. It screams “Die flesh sack”

Panel 2:
Titled “How robots will actually kill us”
A MediBot is injecting something into a humans arm. The bot says “Whooops. I injected you with cancer instead of insulin. That’s on me”

Can’t eat a sandwich until you subscribe to sandwiches. Can’t eat today’s sandwich until it has applied daily sandwich updates. Sandwich now has adverts even though you paid for ad-free sandwich. Can pay again to have less sandwich adverts. Now you can eat the sandwich, but it’s smaller.

Most people assume the borrowing is to provide funds for spending, but it doesn't work that way.
001
Eric Riback @kreplachbro.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Of course, Congress could change that too and not automatically borrow to offset deficits. There is inflation risk there but it is not absolute. That is something that maybe should be a regular decision depending on economic conditions.

Eric Riback @kreplachbro.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
If Congress approves all spending and congress approves all taxation it doesn't need a crutch to control borrowing. If spending is higher than revenue, the difference must be borrowed under current law.

And penalties have to be more than fines. The wealthy will always find ways to stay wealthy. The only thing that matters is the risk of losing their freedom.

The biggest mistake after the 2008 meltdown was that Obama didn’t prosecute anybody. Fines never work because the wealthy find ways to be wealthy. The one thing they can’t get back is their freedom when you take it.

The White House banned Politico, citing anonymous sources. It provided the quotes.
In a letter defending its ban of Politico, the White House critiqued a report based on a press call it conducted, where reporters were told not to name the speaker.

It may have escaped your notice that per Trump, all US government documents referring to what we mortals call artificial intelligence will use the term superintelligence because “use of the word artificial makes intelligence fake, it makes it sound fake” and the technology is real!

Of course there is nothing wrong with marrying (or having children with) your second cousin. In about half the states you can even marry your first cousin. In rural areas with smaller populations you’re more likely to socialize with extended family.

“I’m not going to bring up the fact that the mother of his two children is his second cousin.” Ms. Collins said during an interview with Politico. “I don’t know whether people know that or not.” Northern Maine is culturally similar to rural West Virginia. This will not help her like she thinks.

AI is analogous to the gas engine. It’s only as dangerous as the driver or the one giving orders to the driver. Of course gas engines have been directly involved in the death of millions, both intentional and accidental. And we do heavily regulate gas engine machines.

It does seem to me that the call from AI companies for regulation is intended to make it impossible for upstarts to compete.
