Yesterday an Oakland federal judge issued the second order blocking President Trump's $100,000 H-1B fee proclamation. It was also the first court decision against the administration since the White House extended the proclamation earlier this month.

This post is making the rounds but FYI, it's misleading. The Trump administration cut these trees down in October 2025, almost a year ago. This work isn't new. It's sad but these terrace garden beds facing the Potomac are too shallow for willows to grow forever and several were damaged by storms.

In May I reported that the Justice Department had filed dozens of lawsuits against immigrants across the country, part of an effort to collect unprecedented fines levied for civil immigration violations. At the time, it had assessed $36 billion in fines. Now that figure is $84 billion, DHS says.

Applying for US citizenship could get a lot more expensive soon. A Trump administration proposal released Monday would hike naturalization fees to $1,330 for paper filings and $1,280 for online applications. That translates to a 75% and 80% increase respectively over current fees.
