Air conditioning keeps us cool, but it also heats the 🌎. As temperatures rise, demand for cooling is set to triple by 2050. But keeping cool doesn’t always mean cranking up the AC. From shade & ventilation to cool roofs, here are 5 ways to beat the heat with less energy: bit.ly/4zexrmn

People take the lessons of Emmett Till too far. His mother showed the world what men did to her son with a photo of his brutalized face & an open casket, forcing people to face what was being done to black men. But video is different. Same, btw, with natural catastrophes. Video feels like voyeurism.

Yes every woman has been harassed, many assaulted. But every woman has also experienced invisible loss from moments she avoided harassment. She felt a space becoming unsafe, so she left, while men stayed on. And in leaving, she lost: opportunities, experiences, learning, promotions, even simply fun.

I mean, he hasn’t exactly respected laws or norms anyway, so I don’t get the concern about writing laws someone like Trump could use to their benefit. We’re only hamstringing presidents with ethics.

The constitutionality of a wealth tax has not been definitively decided by the Supreme Court. Time to test that, imo.

No one has contributed a $billion worth of value to society. If you’ve “earned” that much, you’ve done it by not paying others what they’re worth or thru investments that should have been taxed higher. But more importantly the influence that money buys is very dangerous. No one should have that.

How many if the problems we face today could be solved by making billionaires extinct? We leave them 500 million each and take the rest and invest it in schools, research, a decent healthcare system, public transportation, communications infrastructure and public support services.

Yes. See also The Heritage Foundation, Grover Norquist, Newt Gingrich, … All playing the long game. Trump has gone rogue here and there, but most of the authoritarian policies are the result of decades of painstakingly plotted efforts by a small conservative elite.

That’s the perfect sauce for Jojos, although they didn’t have them at Arctic Circle. Btw, I live in Germany now where people often order their French fries “red-white” which means with ketchup and mayo, so the Germans understand how great the combo is, too.

Dubbing requires a translation that not only carries the meaning, but also so matches the mouth movements in the original language. It ends up often being either stilted or drawn-out in a way that’s unnatural. And a LOT more gets lost in the translation.

Fellow Texans: verify that your voter registration hasn't been suspended without your knowledge. I just double-checked mine following a link in the article; it took all of 1 minute. Make sure your voice can be heard in November.

Oh, to have the self confidence of this guy. Dude assumes the one thing he actually has going for him is what women don’t like about him. How convenient. Doesn’t even ask himself if he has bad traits that might make women flee. Like being a pompous self-righteous ass. Life must be so easy for him.

We have a pond in the backyard and this really made me laugh. Some birds hop right down to drink and bathe with abandon. Others make seven cautious attempts to get close before finally giving up and flying off. Then there are the couples who take turns, one keeping guard while the other drinks.

If all income in excess of $400,000 were subject to the Social Security payroll tax, Social Security’s solvency would be guaranteed forever. We could also expand Social Security benefits. There’s no reason even to consider reducing Social Security benefits or raising the age of eligibility.

Bike lanes! Getting better and better all the time. And car safety. Can’t believe the accidents people walk away from. Medical care, at least for those who can get it. Pedagogy. I learned this earlier than most. We lived in the falling ash path of Mt. St. Helens. I was 13 and was shocked to realize, none of the adults knew how to deal with the situation or just how dangerous (or not?) breathing in the ash might be. Very unsettling.

Publisher of kids’ books here. You’re spot on. Those are the same folks who think writing a children’s book or a comic is easy. Story-building, character development, plot structure and twists that capture imagination. It’s hard work. But also, why discourage anything that gets kids to love reading?

A big reason for Democrats to promise prison time for Republicans in power and the use of the state to undermine the Republican Party as an organization is because our former allies need to believe that someday soon, America will cease to be like this.
