#WSocial state of the network - September 15, 2026 There is a lot of misinformation regarding W Social and how active the network is. So, from time to time, I'd love to share some numbers. This is the beauty of #OpenData 💫 sources: pdsls.dev, clearsky.app, ATproto.at #WSocialPics #WSocialFacts

Yeah that story got penalized. Orange is the front page ranking, black is the ranking it should have given the raw ranking formula with no penalties. HN moderators often apply penalties to news and political stories, even if they are very tech-adjacent. news.social-protocols.org/stats?id=496...

Screenshot of a macOS window showing the game Tiny Glade, in the credits menu, scrolling through a list of names. The focus is on the entry "Niklas Korz (dindresto)", which on hover shows the note "for helpz with macOS".

Seeing a lot of dev-on-dev harassment has got me thinking about what open software development feels like nowadays.

mu.social is brilliant app. I was having issues with bsky.app which seems to have gone down, so just switched content service to Eurosky and it's all back up and running.

Choose the content service that supplies profiles, posts, and most feeds. This kind of service is sometimes called an AppView. This setting applies to every account on this device.
Only use a content service you trust. Different services may return different content and apply different moderation policies.

something i find absolutely exhausting, discussion about this stuff is always so guy-coded, it's all what's most efficient or most impactful, or produces some result or whatever. always the most of something. i don't care about any of that. i enjoy writing code. why do we gotta optimise our output

Official announcement will follow next week: we're meeting on Tuesday, October 7, for our next @NixRust meetup in #Mannheim. We still have time for a second talk, so if you have a topic or project related to #RustLang or #NixOS that you'd like to present, get in touch!

In an internal Slack message obtained by The Verge, 1Password’s Karimov downplayed the overtly racist comments from DHH, telling staff the following: www.theverge.com/tech/988536/...

Verge quoted text:

As I said, people have different personal opinions. You believe in your heart that DHH is evil, that you have the moral high ground, and that nothing will change your mind.

However, not everyone believes that. It is not fair to claim a monopoly and ostracize team members who might disagree with you.

There are people who are afraid to speak up simply because they will be personally attacked.

If anything, Cloudflare is a prime example that running all the world's services on one company's infrastructure is a very bad idea, no matter how great the engineering behind it.

When I had my one and only conference paper published on #ACM three years ago, I chose a dedicated email address for the author email. The amount of academic spam on it is almost hilarious. Also half of them are addressing me as Dr or Prof when I'm neither.

It really saddens me how some people cannot differentiate between an artistic choice that might not “make sense” and AI slop that is total nonsense and something an artist would never do. Canonical inaccuracy is absolutely a choice or even an accident that an artist could make lol.

Preact 11.0.0-rc.1 is here ⚛️ preact/compat code is now tree-shakeable, with representative single-export bundles shrinking by up to ~28%. Plus: more size wins, better HTML attribute types and maintenance fixes. This will most likely be the last rc - feedback is appreciated

FYI €7.50 of that are the DHL customs processing fees 🙃 happens to me anytime I get sent something from the US, one time it was a sticker which required €1 in customs and still €7.50 in DHL processing because that is a fixed fee.
