If you've enjoyed Quindrie's output and want to branch out into reading more indie comics, give this campaign from WildStar Press a look, especially if you're in North America! There are a lot of cool indie presses out there doing cool work.

Hi Jack, yeah we sent some emails a few weeks ago. Basically life events have demanded our attention and the volume of applications has meant we’re aiming to get back to people by the end of July. ☺️

Not yet! Did send out an email at the end of April saying g were aiming for the end of May to let everybody know.

110

Koguchi Press @koguchipress.com · 01/04/2026

I will definitely get back to everybody I just won’t be able to give every single submission feedback (as there’s over 200 and I am but one man). Timeline is loosely by the end of April, hopefully sooner.

Technically, the open call closes at midnight GMT on 31st but I’m gonna be asleep so I’m not rising to close the for. If you’re not in the UK you have a few extra hours… Basically, submit it before YOU go to sleep on the 31st and it’ll be fine!

Koguchi Press @koguchipress.com · 30/03/2026

We’re down to the final 24 hours(ish) of our open call! We want your stories, either single chapter comics, serialised comics, prose one-shots or ongoing tales exploring mecha, sci-fi and space fantasy.

Koguchi Press @koguchipress.com · 23/03/2026

This open call is for an upcoming black-and-white manga magazine-inspired anthology magazine/zine featuring comics and prose from creators of any background.

We don’t label our stuff as manga or pretend to be of Asian origin, though we’re talking to some Japanese indie manga creators about future projects. Very much manga-inspired, but working with artists around the world! ✨

100

Koguchi Press @koguchipress.com · 23/03/2026

Hi Sandy! Thanks for sharing, just wanna clarify: We’re not Asian-owned, we’re a small publisher from the UK. We’re inspired by Japanese manga and anime so we chose the name Koguchi to reference this, plus our DIY origins, as it means the “trimmed edge” when making books.

110

Koguchi Press @koguchipress.com · 16/03/2026

We don’t have a set plan/timeline for a second round at this time, but possibly next year? Depends entirely on the submissions we get for this open call.

131

Koguchi Press @koguchipress.com · 14/03/2026

No plan yet! I suspect we’ll have a hard time choosing between the submissions for this and will fill at least 2 issues, so may not do another open call for a while.

120

Koguchi Press @koguchipress.com · 06/03/2026

Can anybody point me in the direction of some large format comics? I’ve already got the big newspaper version of The Spirit (not my pic) but are there any others I should check out?

Koguchi Press @koguchipress.com · 06/03/2026

Oh good spot! Not intentional, apologies for that I’ll update that ASAP

120

Koguchi Press @koguchipress.com · 03/03/2026

We’ve not yet decided on exact timelines for each issue, but hoping for issue 1 in the summer with issue 2 in the winter. We’ll discuss deadlines and which issue to place people in depending on their speed and circumstances. I know diff people work at diff speeds! I myself am quite slow 😅

I may come to regret this decision, but... SCARF! Sheffield Comic ARts Fair! Next October! Liam "Pais" Hill drew our mascot! Exhibitor application form will be out soon, tables will cost as little as I can get away with! Please remember to apply so this isn't a terrible decision on my part 🙏

100% agree. It's always sad when a publisher closes its doors, it's especially sad when it's one doing such good work in an increasingly small circle of UK pubs!

010

Koguchi Press @koguchipress.com · 10/11/2025

Gutted but totally understandable! Quindrie have been a constant inspiration for Koguchi + I really respect calling it a day on your own terms. I've had the same thoughts as a one-man operation. Rising costs, impossible hurdles re: distribution. It's tough! Best of luck with whatever is next!

thinking out loud theres a weird lack of space for this type of stuff that's not fully mainstream & also not artsy in a d&q, fantagtaphics sort of way. despite those styles being quite popular online. not saying 'shortbox' is a style per se but theres like a sensibility

I feel that. We get folks ask for digital comics every now and again, and maybe one day we'll offer that, but for now we just don't have the data to suggest there's enough actual demand. We do offer digital versions through our Kickstarter campaigns but that's it.

010

Koguchi Press @koguchipress.com · 16/10/2025

Damn, this is sad news. This only relates to their US business, but seems the French side is under administration + facing layoffs too. Hopefully, they can pay folks, regroup and keep going. Would be a huge shame to lose a publisher with so much history. bleedingcool.com/comics/comic...
