The Troubling Idea That Hamas Is 'Worse' Than the Nazis
Some have argued Hamas is worse than the Nazis. But such claims dangerously minimize the evil of the Holocaust.

Since Plato is in the news: What was Plato's status at the Nazified university? This 1934 diagram from the journal "Völkische Kultur" shows one response. It puts Plato in a cosmopolitan lineage of degradation leading to Kant which was, in a common antisemitic trope, portrayed as suspiciously Jewish.
Taxonomic diagram of intellectual history tracing the lineage of various strands of thinking published in the ethnonationalist journal "Völkische Kultur" in 1934 in Werner Deubel's essay "Graecogermanisch--Graecojudaisch." In the chart the fundamental divide is between a "Greco-Jewish" lineage that leads to the "downfall of the soul" and a "Greco-Germanic" lineage that leads to the "German Cultural Revolution." Plato is placed in a lineage that leads to a "logocentric system" crystalized by Kant and ultimately resulting in Americanism and Bolshevism. The chart places Kant, Goethe, Schiller, and Romanticism as the critical nodal points in the movement towards downfall (Kant, Goethe in part) and Cultural Revolution (Goethe, in part, Schiller, and Romantics).

Thinking of my New School friends whose programs have been closed (~30 of them), whose PhD programs have been indefinitely halted, and who are now receiving invitations to resign + accept severance payments — with the threat of 🪓 if not enough folks take the offer. A ✨-if-imperfect place ruined 😥

New School has been one of the most important humanities and social science universities in the world for the past 70 years. The humanities are collapsing at all of the pillars, and it won't be long until less prestigious institutions feel validated to call open season upon a number of departments.

This volume of Martin Heidegger's Black Notebooks contains five short notebooks the philosopher composed during the pivotal years of 1942 to 1948. Readers interested in the development of Heidegger's thinking will find insightful documentation for the emergence of his post-WWII philosophical work.
