The Social Reckoning looks good, but I just don't think I can watch it. Mostly because I know how it ends, with Facebook becoming even more powerful and Zuckerbot becoming even richer. The trailers present it as a story of a massive takedown, but I know the badguys win.

Rebel Moon was not as bad as I thought it would be, it wasn't great but it was broadly fine. A lot of really weird choices, but I've kinda come to accept that Zack Snyder just loves cool shit and that's the extent of any of his films and that's fine

I'm trying to think of something pithy to say about 1000xResist, but I just can't. The game says everything it needs to, the story hits like a truck, and it interacts with the medium in some very unique ways. It lacks difficulty or friction, but it still manages to do things that only a game can do

000

Knightmawk @knightmawk.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

I think I'll start a running game review thread, even if it's just for me it'll be good to have it all in one place.

It's funny how there is now a brand of AI company that's like "Hey, we can use our AI to help you find out how much money you're wasting running AI you don't need"

That new Meta add where they talk about "betting on people" is so offensive it made me turn off Almost Famous last night.

Second movie I've watched this year where what is essentially just a very strong guy takes on a full grown brown bear and I just need to stress how much that wouldn't work. He is the one who knocks, I promise you that.

Paul? The real estate novelist? No, he's just never had time for a wife. What? Yeah, I know he's talking to Davey, but they're just sharing a drink they call loneliness.

000

Knightmawk @knightmawk.bsky.social · 28/08/2026

Prey is a great movie, I know I'm late, but I firmly believe that a grizzly bear would fuck a predator up beyond recognition. Also, it's a crime that Amber Midthunder ever played supporting cast to Jack Quaid in an action movie, that woman is a star.

Knightmawk @knightmawk.bsky.social · 12/08/2026

The One is so good because it establishes this concept of infinite possible universes, but then it goes "well, not infinite, 125 universes" and that's kind of the end of the conversation

I mailed my PC and my dev kit back to the studio today because my contract was up, now I have to figure out what to do with my office that's suddenly missing a tower, 2 monitors and a TV.

It's a good movie, but that post is also true, same for everytime someone said "The people from the sea"

I imagine Sam Raimi casting for Spider-Man and he's just thinking of actors in things he's watched recently going "Well, Cider House Rules, Virgin Suicides, Existenz and... Freaks and Geeks",

The Final Fantasy Tactics remaster is perfectly serviceable, it's probably even the best way to play the game if you've never played it before. But man, between using the War of The Lions localization and replacing the death screams with canned voice lines, I don't think I can stomach this

It's funny how we can't stop investing in fossil fuels or we can't nationalize Healthcare because of all the jobs that would be lost, but tech companies can fire 10s of thousands of people and dismantle entire industries because they don't want to pay people anymore. Funny how that works.

Hatching might be a little advanced for a chicken, have them start on just lines and curves, maybe some simple object studies until they understand basic shapes, then introduce shading gradually

Man, the past must have ruled. Walt Disney was sitting on a train one day and just went "What if instead of Rabbit, Mouse?" and now Disney owns half the world.

Work would be a lot easier if I wasn't also constantly taking psychic damage because another studio I love or respect was gutted or shut down this morning because their last game didn't sell 20 million copies.

The problem with building a built in book shelf is you suddenly feel license to fill it with books and now you're back to not having enough space for books (and DvDs).

This airport is making way too many announcements about not bringing guns on planes. This shouldn't be a thing you have to repeat.

I'm really gonna need Kevin Smith to stop aiming movies directly at my heart. The 4:30 Movie feels like it was made in a lab to make me specifically wistful.

000

Knightmawk @knightmawk.bsky.social · 04/07/2026

Apparently Kevin Smith didn't lose the sauce, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Clerks 2 were just set ups for way better movies.

000

Knightmawk @knightmawk.bsky.social · 04/07/2026

Clerks III does not make my canon of movies that feel like coming home, but it's also actually great and beautiful and I'm pretty annoyed at Kevin Smith for following up Clerks II with that.

000

Knightmawk @knightmawk.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

Im developing a canon of sorts that includes a bunch of British & Japanese TV, early Kevin Smith, and cheaply made documentaries like American Movie and Hands on a Hard Body. Its something about normal looking people, relatable stakes, and shooting on location. Its comforting, its like coming home

000

Knightmawk @knightmawk.bsky.social · 03/07/2026

So James McCloud just named his son Fox? That'd be like Jim Fieri naming his son Guy.

I hate that there are ways Xbox could counterposition that would be objectively good for customers and the industry, but would be more long term plays, but instead I know they're gonna engage in psychological warfare against everyone who loves video games because it's what's makes money right now

Forum posts about "Would you pay $1000+ for next Gen consoles?" are so funny because it's mostly just "hell no" and long posts with lists of features that would make them worth it, but then every few pages is someone that's just like "I'll pay a million dollars if it ships with Backyard Baseball"

I had a professor in college who spent a day talking about the intersection of art and craft in relation to engineering. He drew a graph, tried to plot where we were, then he talked about Inception and played Eliot Smith. It was strange at the time, but I've really come to appreciate it since.

000

I work in AAA so I have an even narrower skillset than the average indie dev, but I could bang out a flowerpot in like 5 minutes. What are we doing here? Other than trying to sell AI tools I guess.

120

Knightmawk @knightmawk.bsky.social · 26/06/2026

He's saying you can't use asset store stuff and it's too expensive to pay an artist, but you should pay for AI to generate something that maybe kinda looks like you want it to? Yet he's also saying the asset looking perfect isn't the important part, so why not just block something out yourself?

120

Knightmawk @knightmawk.bsky.social · 26/06/2026

I'm not even trying to dunk on Sweeny here, lord knows he does it enough himself, but I genuinely don't understand what he's on about with the flowerpot.

The thing about having a CS degree and having been a software engineer for almost a decade is that I know enough to know when I'm doing something dumb, like copying 17 TBs of data with `cp -R`, but here we are.

American Movie is weirdly nostalgic, all the old tech and hand editing and all the energy of friends who don't know what they're doing just figuring it out along the way. Bills last line is also beautiful in a way that can not be written down, it's just... Man everyone should see this movie.

"Game dev is one of those jobs you only do when you really want to. It's not going to make your parents proud, you're unlikely to get rich in an industry that lays off people for making superhits, and its a demanding & confrontative job. Why would you let a machine do the thing you're here to do?"

Crazy, on Red Web of all podcasts, to not mention Brotherhood of the Wolf in this episode. An early 2000s horror movie with Matrix inspired action almost could not be more up the street of this podcast.

Privately hoping my players didn't take good notes this session because they found the solution to a puzzle on the wall but then took it down so they'll only know it if they wrote down the order of the clues exactly. Also pretty sure none of my players follow me on here
