As great a double-feature as film has to offer: The Third Man and The Departed. #FilmSky📽️

Starting now on #TCMParty west. This book is my favourite Christie but the movie is just alright, I think. I just don't think Christie's storytelling is very cinematic. Her premises and detectives are, certainly, but the unfolding is too heavy on plot and light on character to make great film.

House of Flying Daggers on 35mm. Don't really know anything about this but people seem excited.

I signed up for three months of Audible to listen to this conversation. But I think it's weird that this is behind a paywall. If it was a show on Netflix or HBO, sure. But a podcast? C'mon.

Working my way through Scorsese's top ten widescreen movies Letterboxd list. But what does he know?

A lot of talk about Dr. Strangelove these days by people who don't begin to have a coherent understanding of Dr. Strangelove. This is currently in the lead to be my 2027 milestone movie.

Up next: one of those foreign movies for nerds. Ugh.

RIP Warner Bros. Also, seeing Maltese Falcon on 35mm this afternoon! Very excited!

I didn't realize Alicia Malone's upcoming "Murder at the Movies" is a novel. I figured it was a book of essays about murder mystery movies, but it's itself a mystery mystery itself. Looking forward to it. Anyway, The Blackbird starting now on the #TCMParty.

Why don't *you* have a conversation with David Ellison?!

Nick @kneecogram.bsky.social · 02/10/2026

And there ain't no party like a Criterion Channel party because a Criterion Channel party doesn't require me to leave the house. 🕺

Two things can be true: The Paramount WB merger is obviously a dangerous tragedy and also the earlier film can be free of David Zaslav the better.

During the pandemic, for 22 months I had to live with the knowledge that this terrible POS was the last movie I saw on the big screen. Anyway, to recap a rewatch, let's do the unthinkable and give it a first ever rewatch (for me, and, I imagine, anyone).

Nick @kneecogram.bsky.social · 01/10/2026

The Last Jedi. It's shocking how good this movie is. Something this smart, fun, and ideologically righteous shouldn't have been possible from a filmmaker parachuted into a mega-franchise and asked to sequel someone else's work.

Speaking of box office, math isn't mathing here, the Supergirl loss must be bigger if those other numbers are at all correct. variety.com/2026/film/bo...

I don't like the prequels. They're coarse and rough and irritating, and there's ridiculous CGI everywhere.

Empire PK80. Curious how this will play. On Disney Plus, A New Hope is the best movie in the original trilogy.

Read this article and it's inspired me to watch Star Wars the best way possible. The Last Jedi is certainly the best Star Wars on Disney Plus. Let's see how it compares to these. mubi.com/en/notebook/...

Apparently, Tom Holland is going to play Astaire in an upcoming movie, with Sabrina Carpenter as Ginger Rogers. I can see it. And there's absolutely an untapped market right now for some great dancing on the big screen.

Those clippers are amazing! FMJ is the first Kubrick I ever saw. I remember stumbling on it on a movies channel once upon a time, loving it and wanting to rewatch it from the beginning, only to eventually be surprised that I had seen it from the beginning. It just hits the ground running. #TCMParty

Ready Player One is an absolute mess, and the sequence where they visit The Shining had no place in the story, but I'm sure it was fun for Spielberg to channel Kubrick. #TCMParty

Garrett Brown, who deserves credit the Steadicam in everything anyway and was the literal Steadicam Operator on The Shining, is depicted in the upcoming I Play Rocky. At TIFF, Peter Farrelly talked about how the test footage shown in the movie is the literal footage shot by Brown. #TCMParty

Barry Nelson's candense and pace as Stuart Ullman in The Shining is so similar to Dr. Heywood Floyd in 2001 that for a long time I thought it was the same actor with different hair and makeup. #TCMParty

Most movies have a low limit to how scary they can be: they're just movies. The scariest (Taxi Driver, Psycho, Rosemary's Baby, The Shining) push the limit by running towards being movies instead of running away. Nicholson's performance is tuned to this e.g. his little camera glances. #TCMParty
