OTD in 1717, Prince Eugene of Savoy's Habsburg forces captured Belgrade from the Ottomans after a two-month siege. I know, yet another Belgrade siege, but that reflects its strategic importance. Some of my troops of the period in 28mm.

OTD in 1330, the Serbs defeated the Bulgarians at the Battle of Velbazhd (Kyustendil in modern Bulgaria). The Serbian army caught the Bulgarians before their Byzantine allies could join them. Some of my 15mm Serbian forces.

OTD in 1914, Austria invaded Serbia. Shells landed in Belgrade, and the main Austrian attack came from Bosnia. It did not go well. Some of my 28mm Serbs and some of the heavy Austrian artillery. This picture in the Vienna Military Museum sums it up!

Another #18th_century inspired drawing related to affairs of Serbia between the Požarevac and Belgrade treaties. This particular drawing depicts my interpretation of an Ottoman frontierswoman :) (historically not present, but I like drawing women under arms!) #oc #smallartist #doodles #historicalart

So, essentially, it is a drawing of a young woman meant to represent an Ottoman derbenci - local recruited to guard the border and the frontier regions of the Ottoman Empire. In this particular case, since we are talking about the rump of the Belgrade Pashaluk / Sanjak of Smederevo in the period after the Požarevac Treaty of 1717, she is, understandably, Serbian (blonde with blue eyes to make this characteristic stand out even more obviously). Her dress is a mixture of Serbian and Turkish elements. The headgear would be a fez with a turban/headcloth wrapped around it. She wears a traditional Serbian white linen shirt (with some red embroidery in the form of geometric patterns and flowers), and on top of it - a colorful yelek vest and a piece of cloth typical for Balkan male national costumes wrapped around her waist. In this wrap, she has tucked in some necessities on the frontier - a pouch, a handschar knife, a flintlock and a hollowed-out pumpkin (used for storing water and beverages of stronger nature!). Her legs are tucked in wide shalvare breeches of Turkic origins, known for being worn by Zaporozhian Cossacks among other people - and on her feet she has some socks inside nanule sandals (UTTERLY DISGUSTING!!!). She is smoking a pipe because the Turks had a tradition of doing such things during their stay here.
Her costume I kind of came up with. A big inspiration was the Yugoslav movie adaptation of Meša Selimović's novel "Derviš i smrt" (The Dervish and Death) - in particular, the opening scene with Ahmed Nuhruddin and his comrades walking slowly into battle with nothing but sabres and clean white shirts.
