I think it’s the combo effect. Not just one “spooky” thing but just the right alchemy. Captain Clark, for example, was needy, pathetic, suckling, mewling, but also dangerous, violent, distorted, horrifying. Like narcissism as a monster. Combined with the banging audio work… got into my dreams.

Captain Clark was an *effective* bit of visual horror. I am not easily disturbed. Watched Nightmare on Elm Street like waaaayyy too young. Played Alien Isolation from start to finish solo in the dark. But Captain Clark tweaked something in my brain and stuck for days.

33 years ago today, the Stranger stepped onto the dock of Myst Island for the first time. We can still hear the water splashing against the pilings.
The dock of Myst Island from the original version of the game. A wooden dock ends at a spiral staircase that leads up to giant gears on a hillside. A ship is sunk in the water on the right, and parts of buildings are visible on the left.

Very possible! I’d wondered that as well, later in life and in hindsight. It was on an inside wall in such a way I don’t think pipes would pass through as the tub’s side ran along the other side of that wall. But, like you said, why not both haunted *and* pipes!

I had one of these sorts of things as a kid. A door in my room. Nailed shut. Painted over. Was like that when my parents got the house. No one ever opened it. It was just like part of the wall. Stranger still: the bathroom was on the other side of that wall with no real space between.

The mental health of your s/o, your own mental stability, the cohesiveness of the relationships you’ve built as an adult, and the stability you’ve fought to build *always* supersedes society’s horse-shit ideas about blood being thicker than water or whatever. Bad people get cut off. Period.

100%. And then they are like “but why don’t you talk to me” or the like because, to them, those memories aren’t core but part of some long string of repressed or ignored byproducts of their own mental illnesses or the like. In the mean time, it’s part of your core programming now.

100% a top movie, and certainly the best Dredd film we are going to get. Hell, besides the comics themselves, it’s some of the best Dredd in any media we can hope for. And every single person in that movie put their maximum everything into every performance. Such a wild outlier.

To help offset the costs of Katie's recheck vet bill in September, I'm running a sale on the Reanimator Mysteries on Itchio. You can grab each book for 50% off or all 4 for $10 (or more, should you want to donate more). itch.io/s/198894/pay... Shares are greatly appreciated!
A grey black background with the head Katie's appointment sale and book bundle
beneath it is a picture of katie (black dog with a white, semi bald nose with a scar) and on the other side are the covers for the four books in the reanimator mysteries series (the reanimator's heart, the reanimator's soul, the reanimator's remains, and the reanimator's fate)
in between, it says my dog katie had a soft tissue sarcoma removed from her nose and had radiation. the vet bills have been a lot of money and she has a recheck in september. to offset the cost, I'm putting the reanimator mysteries on sale for 50% off on itchio. you can grab all 4 for $10
