I find it funny that I've got a contract template specific for three specific ISVs for their customers who call that say "App-driven database performance stinks, and we want to tune it" because I see so many performance problems in their database design.

Anyone else having this happen a lot? (Paraphrasing) "Hi! I couldn't be bothered to respond to your project emails for over a full calendar year, but I've got a problem this morning and want free help. Here's an eight page writeup of what we want for free - and want a request today!"

Quote of the day. "Yes, the entire database is heaps. We don't feel like fixing it. We'll just through hardware at it."

AI image generation is fun, when used right. I'm generating 'b-roll' images for an upcoming presentation. This one is for the slide 'decommission your old server'.

I hope everyone in #IT in the US has a great July 4th holiday, that you don't get called for an emergency, and that you come back with your existing digit count.

Just one strategic #SQLServer index later... CPU consumption dropped like a rock.

Just caught wind of an ERP vendor that accidentall upgraded their live web app to the latest version instead of the preproduction testbed, and it introduced major bugs that are still not yet resolved. The ERP company responsed with... "Ooops."

At what point do we start looking for some niche no-name email provider just so we aren't AWOL from cloud outages?

Interesting. An HCI company wants a client to sign an NDA before they authorize connectivity to external storage. That doesn't quite pass the sniff test.

When did ghosting via email in a corporate setting become commonplace?

David Klee @kleegeek.bsky.social · 31/10/2025
Remember to watch the watchers. A different #SQLServer group at a mutual client was just caught adding an unauthorized index to a critical table. It caused cascading blocking and took down a critical system last night. This was after it was stressed to NOT make changes without ISV written approval.

Isn't cloud XaaS supposed to be pay by consumption? Why would a cloud provider set an artificial limit far too low to be usable, then you need to beg them to increase the limit so you can actually use it as intended?

There's something surreal about watching a company spend a significant amount of staff time to make a platform change because an AI model says a piece of hardware should be running faster than it is (or can).

After having multiple AI models misquote / fabricate things I've said with completely wrong info, I've pulled all of my blog content going back 15 years. I'll be back to writing sometime soon but behind an opt-in wall. Paraphrasing / quoting me is fine, but hallucinating completely false info - no.
