So @dwillner.bsky.social & I took some of our discussion thread from Bluesky last week regarding the "sexy apocalypse" predictions from the EA-aligned "AI Safety" folks, and wrote an article from the perspective (Dave's) of those who do *real* risk mitigation work. The apocalypse will not be sexy.

Your regular reminder: If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia.

I know we're all tired of hearing about AI but for the love of God can we please JUST STOP with all the "AI is curing cancer" bullshit? Cancer isn't a single disease. It's an incredibly complex constellaion of diseases that share a common characteristic—uncontrolled cell replication. If you […]

I think it's a mark of how ultimately unserious a country we are that DHS is spending $75B to chase around day labourers and murder civilians, instead of doing something useful for American residents and visitors, like standardizing how the TSA security screening process works.

The Birthright citizenship ruling should be a wake up call to any Dem who is still on the fence about court reform. We are essentially one seat change away from the Court undoing Reconstruction by fiat.

ICYMI, the US Postal Service proposed a rule allowing it to refuse mail ballots in states that don’t provide voter rolls to the federal government. This could impact millions of Democratic voters and could disrupt the 2026 general election. You have less than a week to comment via mail or email.

It's a truism in tech that you don't get promoted for fixing bugs, only adding features, but when GitHub can't even deliver a single 9 of uptime, re-skinning the pull request menu feels like a poke in the eye with a sharp stick. We asked for better stability, not obnoxious window-dressing changes.

Just watched another car run a red light—egregiously; it pulled into the turning lane to cross back into lane one, while the light was already red. Reflexively looked to the car beside me to make one of those "huh, people", faces at the driver, but it was an empty Waymo. The future is weird […]

I did not want the US to do more war crimes, so I voted against the candidate who had long advocated war crimes and in his first term pardoned convicted war criminals. A greater number of Americans wanted war crimes or didn't care enough to vote against it. So now we're getting more war crimes.

I just passed a pair of Waymos in LA afternoon rush hour traffic, both attempting left turns from lane one, not the shared median lane used for left hand turns. The spoils of the future are, indeed, not evenly divided.
