I had to leave - too much gun violence, too many white supremacists. When I ran the campaign to remove slavery from TN's constitution, I actually had multiple state reps and senators fight against it. Although it's quite an adjustment living in a blue state, I'll take it any day of the week!

Now, if I could just fix the landlord problems I'd be incredibly happy. For a state that brags about tenant protection, I still can't seem to get help with a landlord who refuses to clean six years of nicotine residue off the windows, window sills, etc. It's negatively impacting my health.

It's so weird when I hear fireworks go off at Oakland Beach and realize that they *really are* fireworks and not gun shots right outside my window! I think I've already reverse-aged 10 years lol. It's so surreal that I'm able to spend my lunch hour walking my dogs on the beach.

It was time to leave - I'd fought there for almost 30 years and decided that working remotely gave me the opportunity to live anywhere I wanted, and living on the coast in New England has always been a dream. I'm still trying to get used to not seeing nazis in the streets and hearing gun shots!

Y’all know that agents are trained to describe incidents with canned language, right? For example, “he feared for his life/safety“ so he “responded with an appropriate use of force.” It’s CYA legalese. Private prison correctional officers use the same language when justifying excessive use of force.
