First of 3 days of college visits. I'm crazy, so we're doing 7 flights to visit 3 universities in MA, PA and MD. Last night wasn't off to a great start with back to back delays on BNA-DTW-BDL. Landed in BDL at 2 am and now we're driving to down Amherst, MA and back before flying BDL-DTW-PIT later.

Yeah, agreed. ATL has ~50 international Skyteam departures a day compared to ~20 at LAX. ATL is a DL fortress, so more than likely they think they can get away with less there compared to the highly competitive markets like LAX and JFK.

Yeah, the 140 isn't exciting, but back in the day it was a great way to save money for a poor guy building hours. If I remember correctly it was NZ$125/hr wet (mid 90s). And yes, it was gutless and max load was me, some ramen noodle packs and full fuel, especially in the mountains.

I flew CUA (pictured below and now at the Ashburton Aviation Museum) a lot, an early PA28-140. No one else liked it because it has the trim on the ceiling, but it meant it was always available and it became my favourite single for VFR.

Yep, it's really worth a visit if you make it over there. I did a ton of mountain flying when I was building hours for my CPL back in the day. With constant weather changes, you learn quickly that being very conservative is the way to stay alive.

My first landing in a 172 was into Milford Sound in NZ. I flew into Wanaka in a Piper and an instructor I knew asked if I wanted to do a quick flight into Milford. What a great experience and that's when I learnt how slow an approach could be in a high wing.
