Can we please go back to the ban of micro stripes on camera? It only looks 15% better than the nausea inducing effect of yesteryear.

Dear YouTube: stop changing the size, font size, or language of the closed captions.

#knittinghottake It should be illegal, punishable with a heavy fine and community service, to use a big coat covering every design feature of the pattern in any of the photos meant to convince someone to get that pattern.

Hey, everyone, another size adjustment pickle came to me. When you see the intended ease in a pattern, that isn't usually for the whole garment. Very few patterns with 6 inches of ease. It's usually just for the chest measurement or maybe hips if you are doing more than tops.

#plussizedknitting tips for sleeves. I'm not knitting a whole piece for this one, but thought I would still help. Not every plus sized pattern is the same quality. I hear very good things about a lot of designers, but I learned to knit before most of them.

Final #knitting plus size socks segment. The biggest problem with adjusting the toe is decreasing more stitches in roughly the same 2 inches most socks give. You really can't begin the toe further back, without discomfort. The easiest way is to decrease each row instead of every other row.
Close image of the toe of the sock. The background is pale wood. The lowest stripe color is light blue, then a thin stripe of yellow, next is blue-black, next orange, then a thinner stripe of variegated, and light blue. The variegated stripe is made with the other colors except yellow. The toe is knit with a different color from the rest of the sock. It is a black color with spots of grey, blue, and reddish brown.

Finished the sock
Hand knit sock on pale wood background, with some blue visible behind it. The cuff is at the bottom of the photo, and the toe is on the top. From the bottom, the sock is stripped with yellow, blue-black, orange, variegated, and light blue. The variegated stripe is made with the colors of the other stripes except for yellow. The stripes repeat until the end of the foot, where the color changes in the last 2 inches. In the foot, the last yellow, and last variegated stripes are noticeably thinner, and the toe color is similar to the blue-black but clearly from a different yarn.

Another #knitting thread on adjusting a sock for plus size feet. First, I have to say, there's gotta be a flaw in the pattern. I previously knit a similar sock, and had the same thing happen, and chose this sock to see where the problem was. Basically, there's no gusset in the pattern.
The heel and gusset of a striped sock. The heel is a ribbed triangle shaped. The bottom of the picture is the keg of the sock, with variegated yarn. The variegated yarn is made with the other stripe colors in the sock. The next stripe is light blue, followed by yellow, blue-black, and orange. The stripe sequence repeats after that. Near the top, a much thinner stripe of yellow is there, with just the beginning of the blue -black stripe.

I'm so damn angry at this heel. The only reason I am doing this pattern is I did a similar heel, and the same thing happened. Different designers, same instructions. Over 25 years knitting experience.

A #knitting thread about adjusting a sick pattern to plus size.
A sock leg on cable needles. The cuff is at the bottom of the picture, and there's 5 colors in 10 rows of stripes. The bottom is yellow, next blue-black, 3rd is orange, 4th is a variegated yarn with all the stripe colors except yellow, 5th is light blue. After the 5th stripe the sequence repeats. The sock gets narrower as it progresses towards the needle. There's a pale wood background.

Continuing the example of #knitting plus size socks. Here we can see the decreases at the back of the calf. While I am decreasing 2 stitches every 3rd round, this isn't the only option. You can decrease 4 stitches in a round by having the decreases at the sides of the leg.
A sock cuff and legs on a red cable for magic loop knitting. 7 stripes have been completed. From the bottom of the photo, yellow, blue-black, orange, a variegated stripe with all the other colors, except yellow, light blue, and the sequence starts again, yellow, blue-black.

As a follow up to the #knitting thread on making plus sized adjustments to sock patterns, I recommended adding 2 inches to the cast on, and immediately decreasing. I do a full purl round, then decrease the extra stitches in the first rubbing round. There is no ruffling or pointing from this.
A short section of ribbed knitting on a cable. The lowest color is yellow, the next is a very dark blue, almost black, and just one row of orange at the top. The knitting is on a pale wood surface

Adjusting sock #knitting patterns for plus size. I figured I would give some tips for adjusting sock patterns, since so many people don't knit socks because the patterns don't accommodate them. Here's the thing, like most fit issues, it's not just a plus size problem.

#xstitch #crossstitch fail. Two days of trying to get the hoop grime out has failed. I have to say, while I have not focused on xstitch long, I did decades ago as a teenager, and never been plagued with hoop grime before. Because it's not ironed it's hard to see, but it is noticeable in person.
A partially completed cross stitch piece showing a stylized tree using winter motifs. The emerging shape is like a topiary, made out of 2 dimensional representations of both trees and holiday images. The natural parts of the tree are disconnected leafs and branches, in bluish colors. Some leaves seem rounded, and some feather out from branches. A couple of the leaf shapes are in red or light peach to add interest to the color palette. Included as winter motifs are some holly leaves with a red berry. There's a brown roundish shape that might represent a pinecone, and two small branches with red berries separate from the holly leaves. A cartoonish robin with a Santa hat is the main feature of the top of the tree. At the left side of the trunk of the tree is a cartoonish fawn, with a red scarf. On the right there are three stacked presents. The fawn and the presents have the same out of scale nature as the bird. The base of the tree has a smallish ground of grass, and 3 ferns. Barely visible in the photo is the ghost of hoop grime that couldn't be washed away, rendering days of work useless.

Why's this crazy person have so many projects? Look, I make poor choices. I had to work on something else while I try to get the hoop grime stain out of the other, similar project I was working on. This is Hello Holly, part of the same hello trees line from caterpillar cross stitch.
An embroidery hoop with a barely started project. There's a poinsettia in the top of the frame just off center. Across the canvas there are several floss strands held by a plain magnet. The floss strands are coming out of a partially finished Christmas ornament. The Aida canvas is a light sage green color, the Christmas ornament is vertical stripes starting with orange on the right, a blue that looks silver in the contrast, then teal, and in the center pink. From the pink, the colors repeat opposite starting with the teal, next blue, and finally orange, with the left most orange barely started. The top of the hoop stand, clamped to the hoop is visible above the poinsettia.

I've been cross stitching. This will be "hello deer" by caterpillar cross stitch. I have other projects going as well, but I'm not sure when I will post anything.
In progress cross stitch project. To the left of a tree trunk is a cutesy fawn with a large round head, and white spots. There is a fern at the base of the tree trunk, and a stack of presents to the tight. There's a red bow and a white and blue box on top, a striped red and blue grey striped box beneath the first, and the last box is a beige, peachy color with a large blue heart. The tree isn't a Christmas tree, though the theme is the winter holiday. At the top of the trunk there is a peach flower with a red and white center partially covered by the hoop. Some unattached leaves and berries in individual motifs begin the base of a circular top of the tree, which is only beginning to take shape.

#knittinghottake While I don't think pattern designers are necessary anymore in most cases, if you give a bad rating because of a skill issue, we have a problem. Patterns are not educational. If the pattern calls for a twisted German cast on, it doesn't have to explain how to do it.

I've been playing around with a fingering weight version of Margaret Holzmann's "Safe at Home" blanket pattern. I also like how the books have some examples of other projects with the squares.
Two partial knit squares in the style of quilt blocks. Each square has 5 colors, house, windows, door, roof, and sky. The roof colors are striped, one color repeats the door color. The complete square is burgundy, yellow, brown, rose pink, and light teal. The partial square is blue, gold, silver, purple, and hot pink.

After my post about having to decode my notebook, I thought I would show you all that I did relearn how I survived the gusset while maintaining my short rows. I know I am always "if you can dream it, you can be it" about knitting, but sometimes I think I over do it.
An unfinished sock on long circular needles with a red cable over a notebook with very messy writing. The sock has uneven stripes throughout. The dominant color is bright blue variegated with darker and lighter blue, as well as darker and lighter magenta. The other stripe is a white base speckled with black, blue, green, red, yellow and pink. The speckled parts of the white yarn are very similar to the original highlighter colors from the 80s.
