I did see this genius build on Pinterest (not mine, no attribution sadly) but I may have to steal it!).

A wrecked ship using what looks like Warhammer zone mortalis panels as well as card? Foam?

Right, enough moping. Let's make some Trench Crusade terrain! Ideally I'd have a fully modelled table but firstly, how could I make all the interesting different settings for Carcass Front, and secondly, who has the space for an actual gaming room, not I! 😂 #nerdlings #trenchcrusade

A series of blue foam blocks. The top of each block is covered in a mix of gravel, grit, and sand. Once that's dried, they're getting painted and then sides adding.

Should have been at an indie wargames con today - instead I'm trying desperately to work up the spoons to poke vaguely at a miniature. This week has utterly steamrollered me. My fault for working in the industry I do - this particular week was going to be hell for anyone.

I was there when it was the home of the UoY archeology department, we used to have lectures in that room 😃

I am! Not quite the route 20 year old me thought I'd take to get an office at the Manor, but no less enjoyable for it!

"With this diamond I cut this glass. With this face I kissed a lass" - attributed to Anne Lister, historical girl-kisser (One room along from my new office!!!)

Haha where would we be as a hobby without foamcore and filler? 😂

And new-school 3d printer style!

Building terrain old skool styleee! Alexa, play "Games Workshop Red Era Store Bangers"! #nerdlings

A squat, blocky building resembling a traditional middle eastern mud brick house, built of foam core.

It's the helmet that comes in the plastic set ☺️

Hahah bollocks to that, I've learned my lesson 😂

Ah now, you've got me there, I cook over a candle at home! 😂

Next time I'll fuck off up to Whitby and do it myself, a return ticket on the Coastliner would cost less than this bag 😂

That feeling when you buy an item sold as basing mix "specifically designed for wargaming" and receive the exact sand you can pull off your nearest seaside by the bucket load (and have ice-cream and a chippy tea while fighting a gull while you're at it!) More fool me, I suppose. #Nerdlings

Thankyou! I couldn't resist making her just a little different from the rest!

Thankyou! I've not done much grimdark recently, it's nice to go back to those aesthetics and play with washes and wreathing goops and such 😃

If I had a quid for each blue/green armoured female-fronted celtic naval raider type with sea monster associations I'd have two quid, which isn't much but it's funny it's happened twice! #nerdlings #trenchcrusade

Thrice-damned, thrice-drowned, the butcher of Syracuse, servant of great Leviathan, captain of the Serpent's Lie, submariner and raider and cultist, Annis of the Wrathful Scream and Pierced Heart. #TrenchCrusade

An older woman with white hair and a craggy face. She is wearing sea green armour with a deep red cloak. The armour is decorated with servants and other unholy iconography. In one hand she holds a crested diving helmet, and in the other, a polearm incorporating a cutting torch.

A reverse view of the woman from the previous two images, showing a large shield slung on her back and decorated with two intertwined serpents.

Yes - they seem smooth and almost kinda blobby in places - though I think a lot of AoS feels a bit that way too!

...whats up with the downgrade?

3433

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

Right? I immediately wondered if they'd work for Fenrisian levies or some other feudal/feral world guard.

030

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

For sure - come to think of it, so much of AoS does feel like teams or gangs in a themed costume than it does real cultures and armies wearing clothing and armour - I think you're onto something.

110

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

I think it's meant to be sailing through rocks like a boat sails through water? Which makes very little sense, and I imagine it's no deeper than "a wizard did it".

110

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

I would love to be convinced, but I think there's a lot here that even paint can't fix. Though some of that does come down to me drifting away from GW's aesthetic and never really clicked AoS as a setting.

010

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

They're not quite to my taste, but I absolutely can't deny that they have a much more fitting aesthetic (what if dwarves did trench warfare!)

030

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

Why not just give them normal helmets with braided hair mirroring the braided beards? They seem to have this Valaya = Big metal Bun Codpieces (see also the golems) and it just feels parodic to me.

140

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

The more I look at them, the more I really do despair. The aesthetic is just... dogshit, it really is!

220

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

I think there are elements - elements mind you - that are almost TOW, but any one miniature in its entirety would just stand out like a sore thumb.

030

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

Yeah, they're some kind of firearm, but they look more like a vacuum cleaner, or at best, a lasgun.

220

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

So in summary, grumble grumble, dwarves aren't what they used to be in my day, I'll leave these on the shelf - but I hope y'all beardlings enjoy them!

2150

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

These... these almost fuck. I can't help but feel the scale is off slightly. But I like the concept, if not necessarily the execution.

3190

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

I feel like the concept of these was solid and I love seeing more dwarf women, but a. We already have Ironbreakers, we could just upgrade those with new heads and b. are they wearing padded panniers under their armour?

3140

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

Oh look, mini hoovers! They even have the plastic housing!

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

Logan Grimnar wants his sledge back... and gods forbid they just give him a chariot or the time-honoured solution of a team of burly bodyguards to carry his throne.

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

🎶 Anything chaos dwarves can do, we can do...🎶 worse...

4160

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

Kings of War did this ages ago, and they looked crappy when they did it too.

4170

Kitbashcat @kitbashcat.bsky.social · 18/09/2026

I might just be getting old and cantankerous, but... the new dwarfs kinda suck? Except these two, these two really fuck. The rest? Eeeeh.... #nerdlings
