My Reagan-loving father in law asked what I thought of “the transgender athlete” stuff so I told him there are something like less than 20 transgender high school athletes in the country and the Nazis started with destroying the Berlin Institute of Sexology and now he’s in a rabbit hole.

Looks like the embattled National Weather Service did it's job here. It was Texas officials who failed to act on the weather service warnings for FOUR HOURS. Read this from Austin local news KXAN-TV: www.kxan.com/investigatio...
KERR COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) – Social media posts piece together a timeline of apparent delays in public notification by government officials in Kerr County, as devastating flood waters rose on the Guadalupe River early Friday morning.
13+ fatalities in Kerr County, 20+ children missing from camp after flooding

While the National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning at 1:14 a.m. for portions of that area, it would be hours before the city and county’s Facebook pages posted their initial urgent directions for residents from local authorities.

The first came from the Kerrville Police Department, reposting an NWS alert at 5:16 a.m., adding: “Anyone near the Guadalupe River needs to move to higher ground now. Local streets are flooded in town and low water crossings are impassable. Do not drive into water.”

At 5:31 a.m., Kerr County posted: “Be safe and move to higher ground. Do not drive through water. Turn Around – Don’t Drown!”

One thing that is weird about the Mandami story is the focus on the checked boxes, not the rest of the application (which presumably contains essays or other written statements). Admissions people actually read those! (especially at a school like Columbia, in an era of paper applications) 1/

Pretty clear that this will be the vehicle SCOTUS will use to deny equal protection to transgender people. While the case will be about sports, that decision would essentially strip all rights on transgender status or sex for trans people. It would make virtually any law permissible.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE. This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined. It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

This is their argument. In court. Not just a theory. From today at Law Dork: www.lawdork.com/p/trump-told...
Trump and his top allies in the administration — including Vance, Rubio, and Bondi — do not like the ways in which U.S. courts have made their authoritarian plans more difficult to implement. Despite the 6-3 Republican-appointed majority on the Supreme Court, Trump policies — even from the Supreme Court — continue to face pushback.

In light of that, it appears that the administration — likely led by Stephen Miller, based on who is and how he performed in the Oval Office on Monday, with a pliant Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem helping him — has centered in on what now is clearly an approach to get out from under these pesky federal courts by shoehorning all manner of illegal and even unconstitutional actions into “foreign relations” and beyond the reach of the courts.

This is not hypothetical. The Justice Department made this argument on Sunday.

In arguing what “facilitate” means in the various orders in Abrego Garcia’s case, DOJ lawyers wrote that “requiring something more than domestic measures” would violate separation of powers because it would intrude on foreign relations, which — quoting the Trump immunity ruling — “is ‘conclusive and preclusive,’ and beyond the reach of the federal courts’ equitable authority.”

It’s crucial that we are vocal and demand dignity for trans and queer people, at every opportunity! If we don’t, the other side assumes that we agree with them, and that they have successfully shamed us into silence. (🧵)
