I literally just found it myself. Well of Echoes. Holy shit. That's been bugging me for a WHILE. Also apparently I read the second series in the overall story, having no idea that there was another one set before it, which is pretty funny. God damn. Finally. FINALLY.

There was an old blurb to the effect of ‘imperium sent out deep space probe and all the signals they got back were Orkish.’ I want to say it is pretty old, like 3rd to maybe 5th edition, somewhere in there. I also think it didn’t specify it was outside the Galaxy, just very far away.

Two bits of lore. The idea that the Tyranids might be fleeing something in their home galaxy is common speculation; not sure if it was ever in the books. The Ork thing is a pre-Imperial probe that's been travelling for 14,000 years but is still only picking up Ork signals (wherever it is now).

Also the "Legendary Proxies" system seemed like a good idea when it first arrived but now feels arbitrary as hell. Tactical/Devastator/Suppressor squads are just counted as other squads now (but you need to ask TOs if you can use them at comp events.
