The wording could be taken one of two ways depending on how you look at it. It could be seen as neutral, using "potentially unhoused" to leave room for other options while not outright saying "homeless." It could also be seen as an implication of how the fire started.

Looking at the area, we have offices and centers for indigenous folks, a farmer's market, powow grounds, and a public library.

Generally if there's a fire related to homelessness, it has to do with a fire being used for warmth or cooking or both catching on something and getting out of control. This does happen sometimes, but is not the intentional arson as described by KSTP, screenshotted here.

Minneapolis fire crews are working to put out a three-alarm fire on the 1400 block of East Franklin Avenue.

Interim Fire Chief Melanie Rucker said during a press conference that the call came in for a fire at a commercial building at around 4 p.m. Sunday.

She said crews found an unsecured door on the 13th Avenue side of the building and heavy fire in the center of the structure.

Rucker noted that there were reports of possibly homeless people who set the fire and then ran out of the building; however, that is still under investigation by authorities.

#MSP should keep in mind that both twin cities have various legislation and budget meetings coming up that will bring up things like whether or not to have warming centers, and encampment removal. Mayor Her in particular has been wanting to remove all encampments by the end of this year.

Homelessness is state cruelty, and you just have to look at how government officials will refuse to listen to those on the streets, how they ignore study after study that makes it clear the state's methods do not work. Look at how they talk about homeless folks.

Encampment sweeps? The goal is not to help people. Its to remove any sense of stability or community, and force people to scatter in ways that makes it harder for them to get help. Also like...homeless people are people. Fellow humans. I really need people to remember that.

Shelters are not a great option actually, as there's no privacy (a human right & core need), and are often run by controlling, exploitative, people. And that's if there's any shelters open. As for other state programs...They're designed with plenty of hoops to keep people out, not help people.

I want to add? That investment means a lot of what's told to you by those in power about homelessness are lies. It's not drugs, its the cost of housing skyrocketing compared to wages Outreach programs are not coming out to encampments daily. Cops don't count as outreach.
