The show Nocturnal Worlds is up at Waterstone Gallery! Folks in Portland can see it today and the Opening Reception is tomorrow. I installed my sleeping brainwaves in a gallery along with portraits with hypnograms for deep sleep, dreams and insomnia. #Portland #sciart #sleep

I can verify Seattleites say, “The mountain is out.” Next goal is to see Rainer with a cloud cap or a lenticular cloud circling the peak.

You are lucky that the Orcas in the PNW are friendly and have not caught on to the boat-ramming culture of their European counterparts. Have fun!

My latest series of paintings for Nocturnal Worlds will be up at Waterstone Gallery next week and will be available on their website. Have a few things to finish before the opening on Thursday. Thanks for asking!

Totally! My brother’s 30+ year passion project has been photographing rock concerts in the Seattle area. So static portraits are not really his thing.

Thanks 😊 This was an ad hoc thing. My brother is awesome and apparently always carries his camera and lenses around.

The 🧠 toss is a nod to NWNoggin @nwnoggin.bsky.social, the group that got me tossing brains for neuroscience outreach. We bring real brains into classrooms … we only toss the 3D models though. Been so deep in the studio prepping for next week’s show that I haven’t had much time outside it lately.

My brother was in town and took some photos of me in my studio. The first is what I should use for my artist portrait… but the second brain toss shot is more fun, right?

I’m all over the map this morning so here’s a map: “A Combined View of the Principal Mountains & Rivers of the World” drawn by J. W. Colton and published by J. H. Colton in 1852. My copy is a scarce, poster-sized stand alone issue. Hand watercolored.
A map with mountains depicted in three dimensions in pastel colors. Rivers are flowing down from the top edge, the longest to shorted left to right.

This print is still available, for a steal! My little love-note to spring in the Pacific Northwest and one of our most iconic forest flowers. The tan of the paper is a bit warmer & prettier than it looks in the pic on the website. Photo from the proofing process, when I was testing green inks.
Three test prints in different green inks on tan paper, laid out on a cutting mat that’s black with white grid lines. The largest test print on the left is still quite wet across the top, showing that the sizing has started to break down because the paper is old

Although not strictly time travel, there are delightful people who in their presence bring you back to moments and trigger memories through stories that transport you back to bygone versions of yourself. Never miss an opportunity to celebrate with old friends.

The #SciArtSeptember 🧪prompt is almond-shaped. Did you know that amygdala literally means almond-shaped? I didn’t, but now we both do. I used a (open source) brain MRI to make a cyanotype print and embellished it with metallic gold to show the almond-shaped feature, the paired nuclear complex
As described I used a (open source) brain MRI to make a cyanotype print and embellished it with metallic gold to show the almond-shaped amygdala, the paired nuclear complex present. It’s labelled “Amygdala” in gold and signed Ele Willoughby, 2026.

D’Amario also pulled a few printers proofs (as I understand it, she keeps a proof of all editions she pulls). She has printed for the likes of Jim Dine and Marie Watt, so I feel like the prints I made with her are in fantastic company.

Julia D'Amario, the master printmaker who pulled this edition, also pulled two artist proofs. Earlier this year someone had requested an unframed print as a graduation gift. So, I parted with one of those.

Attempting to use my typewriter for some text for an artist book which will contain directions on how to lucid dream. Getting the alignment has been one heck of a learning curve. Using paper from a very old lab notebook. #sleep #luciddreams
