Hungary's April 2026 elections presented a pretty clear choice: continue down the path of becoming a vassal of Putin's Russia, growing more and more like it, or reject that path. It seems to me that American voters are increasingly facing a similar choice.

Just finished the last episode. The ending is more or less direct commentary on the current situation – wish there would be more discussion around this type of culturally&politically relevant productions. Of course people can also watch it as a relationship drama, which many seem to choose to do.

How large is your vocabulary in Finnish? You can measure it with this word recognition test. Level 1 is for the most frequent words (frequency level <600). Level 2 is the frequency level 600-1200, and so on. The highest level 5 goes up to the frequency level 4000-6600. Which level you master?

Don't get to teach Shakespeare much anymore but I always liked talking through the "most of the members of the Wu-Tang Clan have a more varied vocab than Shakespeare" chart with students who assumed artists today are more limited. No way you get this distribution without rappers who read widely.

It does. Discovering someone has cited something I wrote, I feel compelled to contact them and ask how they came across the text, what did they think of it as a whole, would they like to talk about the subject more generally, that kind of stuff. I almost never do. Maybe we should do more of that.
