I am a x refugee and I used to look like a bot with a different handle and no pic on x. I am climate doomer. I am so much of a climate doomer that reading Deluge and also reading Ministry of The Future made me feel better. (Deluge was a better book btw!)

Today, August 4, 2026, is the setting of Ray Bradbury’s short story “There Will Come Soft Rains” about a fully automated house continuing on after the family who lived there and the world around it died in a nuclear blast.

I run a water plant in Ohio, we were hit. Several in MI and Indiana were hit as well, all states Trump won. The hack went after a particular PLC vulnerability and was not quite as bad as is being reported.

OK, this is wild. In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them. It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*. What the HELL? 1/

THE RISE OF END TIMES FASCISM My first major piece of the new Trump era, co-written with @astra.bsky.social. The governing ideology of the far right has become a monstrous, supremacist survivalism. Our task is to build a movement strong enough to stop them. www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-i...

IMTs are quietly talking about what the current political environment means for this year's wildland fire suppression efforts, but it deserves a larger and more public consideration. 1/

Whenever anyone laments the state we’re in, they’re met with a chorus of “but what do we do?” As plenty of good options are available, this response might often be wilful impotence*. I invite you all to nominate in this thread the best proposals and practices, around which we should gather. Thanks

The criminal oligarch class and their greedy minions are basically doing to the United States what they’ve done to many other countries over the years, often in our name. I have to say it very much sucks.

I live in SoCal but for some reason have read a lot more about how king tides are affecting Florida than I have read about king tides on the west coast. The California King Tides Project on blue sky is helping me rectify that. :). This is from yesterday:

For me, the most incredible artefacts from the ancient world are the letters people wrote on clay tablets and sent to one another over thousands of years in Mesopotamia, going back to more than 5,000 years ago. They contain recognisable humanity, warmth and humour. Here's a thread of my favourites.
Two scribes depicted in an ancient Assyrian low relief, using styluses to write on clay tablets.A cuneiform tablet with writing on it.

Bluesky Tutorial Lesson #2 A lot of aspects about your account, including what lists you're on, are public and can be checked using ClearSky by typing in your username A couple folks have asked me to add them to the MENA list when they were already on it, and this is a good way to check

Newskies: When you use a red push pin emoji as a bookmark (see how below), add a few words about what you’re bookmarking. Otherwise you’ll go to your bookmark feed, see a bunch of pins, and have no idea what content they’re related to without clicking through. (Learned this the hard way, lol.)
