Sessions- Auditioning Basics.

This will cover the very basics of auditions- what to expect from casting calls, , technical requirements, some of the basic jargon and methods, how to handle less ideal casting calls, plus a little look into vetting and etiquette.

Filled with useful information for newer VAs, but also some handy tips & reminders for those more accustomed to the industry too.

Sessions - Game Genre Intensive

This session covers what the game genres are, tailoring your performances to them, and some simple tricks to help you feel more confident & boost your toolset when addressing game auditions.
Especially beneficial to those who don't play any or many games and to those who know their games but want to figure out how to use their nerd-dom for the powers of good!

Sessions - The Hermit Crab Class (AKA Scene Building)

Full of dubious and interesting analogies, this session will primarily focus on scene building, including:
-Interpreting and strengthening a provided scene
-Conjuring scene ideas when little information is given
-Tips & tricks for creating believable auditions & combatting audition fatigue!

Skeleton Key Voices was created as a space for group mentorship with Accessibility at the forefront- we believe that folks of any and all backgrounds should be able to pursue creative endeavours and get feedback, that there should be a space where you don’t feel as though you need to apologise, explain or otherwise self-advocate.

We put comfortability and fun at the top of our goals as part of our sessions, which cover all facets of VA for beginners and pros alike- and if you’ve got skills you’d like to share, we highly encourage that!!

If a project is offering $5, there's more a consciousness of 'I'm paying what I can but they're still willing to work with me'. There's more investment from a creator, there's a business transaction and so there's more responsibility to respect the time & efforts of the VAs involved.

I know in an ideal world that would already be great, and while I've no problem occasionally helping out on unpaid projects, I think creators having some form of skin in the game AND some sort of official transaction helps reiterate that this is, at the end of the day, business...

A VA hot take: All projects should be paid. Not for financial gain either- even if it's a couple of dollars or so for a project, I genuinely believe that any amount of pay helps with professionalism on the project. 🧵

As and when it feels natural, taking into account how fast social media can burn you out 😅 I try to interact with folk in a way I wouldn’t perceive as ‘too much’ regardless of whether I’d call them friend, collaborator etc., if not just for peace of mind as well as respecting boundaries.
