"Had a fantastic time at Ki's auditioning practice workshop! Ki is a brilliant, informative director who is understanding of the need for accommodations and whose workshops have a friendly and inclusive atmosphere.

She'll give you feedback on a take and then, through discussion, you'll have a completely different idea that she'll encourage you to go with and demonstrate, with no pressure or fear of failure, all things that make for a fun and engaging experience. Would definitely recommend!"

Tip of the day! Auditioning over and over is already tiring and tricky enough, don’t torture yourself unnecessarily 💜 You can absolutely nail an audition and still not get cast- it doesn’t mean you’re a failure or a bad VA!

When you audition, there’s only so much in your control.

Your job is to pitch your interpretations of the character using the info given, your performing skills and your unique experiences.

You can only ever do that. You can’t ever guarantee you’ll be cast.
Plus that way, you’ll be finding new characters to store for future auditions and projects regardless of whether you book!

🎮 Game time! 🎮 Voice Acting casting call “It’s a 10 but…” 🤔 What would these 10/10 casting calls be with their additional features? Would you audition for any of them? 👀

It’s a 10 but…

We've been busy at work the last few months developing our sessions! Below is our main roster so far, with not only an existing fully hands-on workshop on the rotation too, but also more talks, roundtables and more to come soon! 💀 🗝️ Invites to our discord available via linktree, DMs or comment!

Sessions- Auditioning Basics.

This will cover the very basics of auditions- what to expect from casting calls, , technical requirements, some of the basic jargon and methods, how to handle less ideal casting calls, plus a little look into vetting and etiquette.

Filled with useful information for newer VAs, but also some handy tips & reminders for those more accustomed to the industry too.

Sessions - Game Genre Intensive

This session covers what the game genres are, tailoring your performances to them, and some simple tricks to help you feel more confident & boost your toolset when addressing game auditions.
Especially beneficial to those who don't play any or many games and to those who know their games but want to figure out how to use their nerd-dom for the powers of good!

Sessions - The Hermit Crab Class (AKA Scene Building)

Full of dubious and interesting analogies, this session will primarily focus on scene building, including:
-Interpreting and strengthening a provided scene
-Conjuring scene ideas when little information is given
-Tips & tricks for creating believable auditions & combatting audition fatigue!

In the works...

PVP: Project Pipelines, Vetting & Protecting yourself

AABBCCs: A Workshop on Take Differentiation

If you’ve got training/knowledge in a specific area or subject you’d like to make a session on, host a roundtable/discussion about or any other form of contribution, please don’t hesitate to reach out with the details!

Looking to build your confidence, skills and knowledge of Voice acting, but concerned about being able to pay, whether you can attend due to health or generally worried about the approachability of other groups?

We’re here to help! Skeleton Key Voices was created as a space for group mentorship with Accessibility at the forefront- we believe that folks of any and all backgrounds should be able to pursue creative endeavours and get feedback, that there should be a space where you don’t feel as though you need to apologise, explain or otherwise self-advocate.

We put comfortability and fun at the top of our goals as part of our sessions, which cover all facets of VA for beginners and pros alike- and if you’ve got skills you’d like to share, we highly encourage that!!

If you’d like to get involved and check out the group, comment with a skelly 💀(or emoji of choice) and we’ll pop you the link ASAP!

We’ll have an honesty system for those unable to pay for our sessions as well as a range of alternatives provided, and will do our utmost to accommodate any other conditions, disabilities etc. folk may have 💜
We truly hope we can help to remove the barriers to the voice acting world, and we’d love to have you with us! 🫶🫶
