Their reunion occurred under dramatic circumstances, forcing them to remain in Italy longer than expected. This interlude gave them a chance to take a breath and get to know each other all over again. And also to make up for certain other pleasant things that their separation had deprived them of.

Realized that he doesn't always wear his "Catholic attire." He often has to wear simpler clothes so he doesn't risk getting caught by the English. It's also much more comfortable for walks in the forest and trips to town.

The story ended up bordering on visceral or medical body horror—maybe I'll draw other moments from it sometime. This scene takes place after the main events, once Hugo has finally pulled himself together (though you can't exactly willpower away a facial rash or an unkempt appearance).
