Today, someone told me what they thought my most impactful paper was. And I disagreed. What paper is the most impactful to me? I’m in year 3 of my PhD, so I think only time will tell. But to me, so far, the one that was the start of my mentee’s research journey. Ungatekeeping and teaching is impact.

I am at ASSETS 2025 in Denver presenting an experience report on navigating temporary disability with the use of multimodal GAI in Session 8B (dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1...). Also, we have a paper on the use of embroidery to create tactile graphics in the fabrication track (dl.acm.org/doi/full/10....)

The state of #science and #research in the US: I have started to get “Choose Europe” ads on LinkedIn as a 2nd year PhD student.
An ad from the European Commission that says “Choose Europe”, bring your research where it’s valued and funded, on my LinkedIn feed.

I don’t usually open up about disability on a personal level, but this article gets a little bit into it. Creating accessible environments for learning/research for all (diagnosed or not yet) can help people reach their goals and dreams.

The program, Charting My Path for Future Success, aimed to help teens with disabilities transition from high school to the real world. It abruptly ended when DOGE terminated its federal contract.

Dear Parent or Guardian, We are writing to inform you that the federal government has canceled funding for the Charting My Path for Future Success Project funded under the US Department of Education's Evaluation of Transition Support forYouth with Disabilities ContractNo. 91990019C0078. What happened? On February 10, 2025, the US Department of Education canceled research contracts with Spotsylvania County Public Schools as well as school districts across the Commonwealth and nation. We received notification at 10:19 p.m. on February 10, 2025, to immediately cancel anything supported by the Charting My Path for Future Success Project funding. The SCPS Charting My Path for Future Success Project provided instruction and support for our high school students with disabilities to help prepare for the transition from high school. The cancellation of this program impacts 91 SCPS students and five full-time instructors who were funded by the Charting My Path For Future Success program funding. What this means for your child: Your child will no longer receive the transition supports that were part of the federally-funded Charting My Path for Future Success Projct.
