AI “going rogue” is just a rebranding of “hallucinates” and “doesn’t work.”

There is something so unsettling and anti-human about stores having Christmas stuff out in September. We just celebrated the harvest festival on the fall equinox and you’re forcing the winter solstice on us.

If ICLR submissions continue to grow at this rate, every person on earth will have an ICLR submission by 2048

Can anyone give me some advice? I am considering withdrawing my ICLR submission. I don't want my paper associated with a venue that accepts this much slop. No shade on the organizers, but this is a legitimate concern to me #iclr2027

Someone asked me in full seriousness what my “p-doom” is. Ozymandias also truly believed he would achieve immortality. It’s another example of internal return or difference and repetition and the weird tech oligarch we live under helps me understand the historical hubris of conquering death.

All of these headlines about “AI solving huge math problems” are all the same story: a mathematician who knew the field grinded on the problem by burning tokens and sifting through millions of hallucinations. I don’t think it’s correct to attribute the solution to AI at all.

I love working in academia. I love it when students want to learn. I love it when accomplished scientists appreciate my work. All-around good vibes - except for asking for grant funding.

Transformers really do struggle with physics problems. There are examples where they do work, but I think more often they do not.

Data center fatigue: Repurpose AI to solve the problems it creates
Data centers that fuel artificial intelligence are meeting resistance across Georgia. However, this is now an opportunity to use AI to solve the problems it creates.

Someone at Anthropic claimed to prove this same thing weeks before this preprint came out. I suspect the authors were using Claude to proof read their manuscript and Anthropic leaked their IP. I can’t prove it, but I’m suspicious.

SARS-CoV-2 did not come from a lab. There is no evidence pointing to laboratory origins. There’s been a massive disinformation campaign to convince the public otherwise. It’s scary how effective that campaign has been.

My new exterminator is an older, burly Southern dude. He was very concerned about getting my trans tenants’ pronouns correct. He also assured me that the inspector who was coming out would be extra respectful. He made a point of saying this in Southern parlance. Idk, I just thought this was nice.

Science in the age of mechanical reproduction: The aura of science was tied to the difficulty of producing it. AI is to science what photography was to art in Walter Benjamin’s critique: mechanical reproduction doesn’t eliminate value—it changes where valorization occurs.

A lot of discourse on the forbidden platform about AI slop in scientific writing. IMHO the problem with AI being used in research is it pushes everything towards the median when new research should push the boundary. I don’t care if someone uses it for writing as long as it’s coherent and correct.

My cat reminds me of a trope I often see in anime, AoT is an example. The main character senses there is something wrong with the world — something isn’t quite right — and sets out to solve the mystery. Out of the window are birds, squirrels, instinctual prey. Me: Sorry babe, you can’t go outside.
