Just in terms of roster construction, Petey Halpin batting here isn’t quite as bad as Michael Martinez batting in the 10th inning of a World Series Game 7, but it’s also not a lot better.

Don’t see how you can keep starting Joey Cantillo, except that you also can’t start Logan Allen. So, congrats Slade Cecconi, I guess

Joined EALE to save a bit on submitting to Labour Economics, which involves emailing an Elsevier inbox to get a code to enter instead of paying the submission fee, which is kind of a silly mechanism, and also no one seems to be monitoring the inbox? Anyone else have this experience?

A few cool things about this project: Every administration since W Bush has made changes to overtime rules. None of these changes have addressed how the content of your job related to OT eligibility, in part because that's hard to measure. Now we have new measurement tools!

One thing I learned from this 529 tool I made is that plan fees are a big part of why saving this way can be so expensive. There are plenty of low-fee assets, but then you pay the state for the tax-exempt status…

When the labor market looks wobbly, people often look to subgroup unemployment rates (eg for non-white or young workers) for signs of what’s to come, but do they actually predict changes in the overall UR? I have a new short piece on this out today for @clevelandfed.bsky.social.

For the next three years, an optimistic tariff-advocate scenario looks a lot like that 2001-style recession. That’s an important point: the transition advocates mostly want to gloss over may in fact be a recession, which research suggests would have long-term consequences.

I’ve been doing quarterly labor market updates at @equitablegrowth.bsky.social once all the data come in, and now is a weird time for one. Tariffs are coming and going faster than data can be collected. What we have shows a labor market that still looks solid, comparable to 2019. But…
