I had the most engagement on anything I’ve ever posted here yesterday. Whether this is the right reading on why that is or not I am assuming it’s because sincerity sells and we all really want the radically old school idea of a genuine connection with some good faith engagement.

Social media isn’t what it was. We’re drowning in irony and outrage, and most days I think using it does more harm than good. But as I process and persevere through another rejection (everyone gets them!) there’s one thing about being a writer I’ve never really articulated and want to try to now.

Lesson learned at my local cinema. I was sat for Resident Evil beside the stairs which were underlit with red LED lights that stayed on for the whole film and created a horrible glare in my peripheral vision throughout. Just let people fall ffs. (The film was excellent, mind. 4 stars.)

This probably won't make sense to anyone but the male cast of the Irish Traitors could do with being more distinct in what they wear. So many of the fellas are dressed in muted greys, beiges, blacks and browns and all with regular haircuts too. It makes them really nondescript and anonymous.

You know, now that we’re a few years into this, on balance, news podcasts are not a good replacement for traditional news. It’s all reaction, all the time. Rarely does it break news, or educate listeners. It’s debate driven, chasing the audience, not the story. I get why, but it’s a degradation.
