Kevin Lehane @kevinlehane.com · 14hOnce again I turn to social media to help me come up with a great Treehouse of Horror Halloween themed name for me. Mine are always a bit shite. For context this was the one I used when we did Best Jump Scare on bestbitspodcast.com 310

Kevin Lehane @kevinlehane.com · 26/09/2026I had the most engagement on anything I’ve ever posted here yesterday. Whether this is the right reading on why that is or not I am assuming it’s because sincerity sells and we all really want the radically old school idea of a genuine connection with some good faith engagement. 130
Kevin Lehane @kevinlehane.com · 25/09/2026*** The other OTHER thing about being a writer is being driven mad by reading back something you wrote and wanting to fix it. In this case, I wish I wrote "other attractions" instead of "rides", but I didn't, and now I hate myself. *** 080
Kevin Lehane @kevinlehane.com · 25/09/2026One rides the ghost train. One rides the bumper cars. One rides the weird scissor thing, and all nod politely afterwards as they leave. None of them noticing all the other rides. And as they go I stay sat at my post, inside the ticket booth, hoping someone will come along who wants to ride them all. 1151
Kevin Lehane @kevinlehane.com · 25/09/2026It's hard to hold this secret. Being the writer I am, it feels like I am running a theme park, and I put everything into it. Every year without fail I create more and more rides for people to enjoy, but no one knows it's there and when someone does come by. They come alone, one at a time. 1121
Kevin Lehane @kevinlehane.com · 25/09/2026They judge you only on what’s in front of them -- as they should -- but they never know the other things you were doing alongside it, or what was happening in your life while you did it. Your best is not only on the pages they see, but shared across all the other pages they never do. 1120
Kevin Lehane @kevinlehane.com · 25/09/2026One frustration I’ve never known how to describe is that nobody ever sees your whole output. They read one short story, one pitch, one spec, one commissioned script, one manuscript, all stacked up but separated in your inbox. 1101
Kevin Lehane @kevinlehane.com · 25/09/2026A writing career is hard. Sometimes it feels more like a gambling habit: it costs more than it gives back. Even if you love it, as I do, while it pummels you into submission (after submission), you just can’t quite quit. They call it a vocation, but it's really just a bad habit. 1153
Kevin Lehane @kevinlehane.com · 25/09/2026Social media isn’t what it was. We’re drowning in irony and outrage, and most days I think using it does more harm than good. But as I process and persevere through another rejection (everyone gets them!) there’s one thing about being a writer I’ve never really articulated and want to try to now. 1204
Kevin Lehane @kevinlehane.com · 23/09/2026Lesson learned at my local cinema. I was sat for Resident Evil beside the stairs which were underlit with red LED lights that stayed on for the whole film and created a horrible glare in my peripheral vision throughout. Just let people fall ffs. (The film was excellent, mind. 4 stars.) 120

Kevin Lehane @kevinlehane.com · 10/09/2026What I imagine people born after 9/11 don’t know is that after it the whole world was united. It was a period of collective togetherness that was beautiful and genuine. And then Bush and Blair destroyed it all by bombing Baghdad and killing millions of innocent people in retched revenge. 051
Kevin Lehane @kevinlehane.com · 10/09/2026Has anyone ever finished that film? I know I haven’t managed more than ten minutes. 100
