Freedom should mean healthcare, food, income, support, and the right to challenge systems that deny them. One year after H.R.1 became law, low-income people have to fight even harder for care, access, and dignity. Rights don’t protect themselves. We do.

Today is the 27th anniversary of Olmstead v. L.C., the Supreme Court case that confirmed unjustified institutionalization of disabled people is discrimination and that states must work to integrate disabled people into community settings Decades of disability rights organizing made this possible.

AI-based cuts harm people seeking Medicaid home care by delaying support and increasing denials. You and your loved ones pay the price when disabled people and elders lose care, and women are forced to fill the gap. People deserve fully funded care.

AI isn’t gender neutral. It shows up when benefits systems block people over “mismatches,” when automation flags “fraud,” and when hiring tools inherit old assumptions about who counts. Check out TTJ’s Tips for identifying AI Use: www.techtonicjustice.org/resources
Text reads, “AI Isn’t Gender Neutral: A Women’s History Month explainer.” The image shows a database with a series of 1s and 0s next to “approved” or “denied” decisions for redacted people files. The last entry has a 2 and a cursor where a decision should be made. Around the database are checkboxes with green checkmarks, and one checkbox in the bottom-right corner with a red question mark. In the bottom-right corner of the graphic are a green arrow and the TechTonic Justice logo.Text reads, “A system mismatch can block access on the spot. That’s not neutral and can put someone in a situation where they go without needed care.” The image above is a quadrant of four images: a phone with a sale ad, a benefits card in jagged pieces as if cut up, a computer, and a photo with a black bar over it that says “CENSORED.” In the bottom-right corner of the graphic are a green arrow and the TechTonic Justice logo.Text reads, “If you don’t match what the system expects, you won’t get to receive what you need to survive.” The image above shows a gender form section, and it’s a required field. There are two options, “Male” and “Female,” with no other options. In the bottom-right corner of the graphic are a green arrow and the TechTonic Justice logo.Text reads, “Across healthcare, education, housing, benefits, and employment, AI is used to make decisions people often can’t see, understand, or easily appeal.” The image above shows a black box in the center with a blue question mark. There are five dotted lines branching out on different sides of the black box, leading to a stethoscope, a backpack, a home, a benefits card, and a briefcase. In the bottom-right corner of the graphic are a green arrow and the TechTonic Justice logo.

Want a dose of alternate reality? Look no further than the gender divide. AI tools use biased data that makes it harder for you to have equal access in hiring, healthcare, credit, face and voice recognition systems, and other systems that shape everyday life. Swipe through, read the stats, & share.
Two people faced in opposite directions behind a text that reads, “Algorithms aren’t neutral, women are paying the price.”Text reads, “Healthcare: AI can further a system that already downplays women’s pain and symptoms, leading to delayed diagnoses and worse treatment. These AI tools often lead to worse health outcomes for Black and brown women.”Text reads, “Career advancement: In a 2025 Brookings study, women’s names were favored in resume screenings only 11% of the time, compared with 51.9% for men.”Text reads, “Credit: Until 1974, women didn’t have access to credit. The gaps in data from women lead to women facing higher rates of being denied credit or receiving lower credit limits.”

Landlords adore AI. After all, the math is simple: Black-box tenant scores + unexplained rejections + higher rents = more money in their pockets. Whether they box you out or box you in, they can always send you packing.
