A Bit of Tedious Drama At Bluesky

In an obituary of all places, @nytimes.com chose to promote ignorance from white supremacists when they could've said, "Ubisoft has a full-time historian on staff, and creates the games through extensive collaborations with experts in ancient art, architecture, and literature." Which is true.
From a historical perspective, Ubisoft has delivered everything I could have asked for, providing a rich, textured, and unbelievably beautiful Japan to lose yourself within. This being Playing With History, I just had to know more about the work that Ubisoft put into crafting this historical marvel. That’s where Dr. Stéphanie-Anne Ruatta, the World and Historical Director for Assassin’s Creed Shadows came in. Ruatta is a historian with a PhD in ancient languages and literature, and is currently the onboard historian at Ubisoft Quebec, having worked on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, and now, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. She took the time to sieve through my waffle and blathering to figure out if there was an actual coherent history question in there.Dr Glaire Anderson, of Edinburgh College of Art’s School of History of Art, worked with game developers Ubisoft on Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the upcoming instalment in the Assassin’s Creed® franchise launching worldwide on October 12, 2023, which follows the early years of protagonist Basim Ibn Is’haq in the capital of the medieval Abbasid caliphate.

Dr Anderson provided expertise on medieval Islamic history, art, architecture, archaeology and civilisation to Ubisoft’s in-house history team, and contributed to a new educational feature, ‘History of Baghdad’, which offers players an interactive way to learn more about the game’s rich setting.

Walked 7.6 miles in London today. Pretty hot for it. Had a nice dinner overlooking the Thames with a view of St. Paul. Waitress came up and told me not to have my phone on the table next to the railing where it could get snatched because, and I quote, “don’t you know London?”

The attitude is ”reading is a place where I should not encounter new words” absolutely enrages me. It’s like saying you shouldn’t encounter new ideas.

But saying that encountering a new word in a book is an ”accessibility” issue seems anti-book, anti-learning, anti-knowledge, pro-ignorance. I mean it’s not like you have to get a pass to the Bodleian to look it up. Five seconds on your phone after you try to figure it out from context!

When I was a lad I wanted very badly to go to a movie memorabilia/funhouse type place in Hollywood that advertised on TV. My dad took me. After driving, and parking, and paying, and entering, it transpires that it was the WRONG movie museum/funhouse, without the same slide and so forth.

You might need to check your Bluesky account. Someone is claiming to be you and attacking Seth Abramson under your name. They are making you look really bad, saying that Seth is a crank and charlatan when everyone knows that Seth is a Trump biographer who knows better than most of us the inner workings of the deranged mind of our current “president.”  I would definitely let Bluesky know you are being impersonated. No way a Penn State college professor wouldn’t know better than what was stated on your account !  Just wanted to give you a heads up.
