Kent Pitman @kentpitman.bsky.social · 04/05/2026Even among people who see a problem, the details of proposed solutions and their later effects matter a great deal. But having a conflict of interest makes it hard to trust the conversation because one can't be sure the person involved is seeing the problem clearly. 010
Kent Pitman @kentpitman.bsky.social · 04/05/2026The GOP wants voters to think proposed law emerges out of nowhere for selfish reasons, with fictional rationales tacked on as mere sales tools. But Bernie, AOC and other progressives don't pick a proposal and work backward to a rationale. They start by seeing problems, working forward to a solution. 100
Kent Pitman @kentpitman.bsky.social · 04/05/2026Sure, yeah, Biden passed historically many things, stuff that had eluded others. But none of it matters because he was in denial about how vulnerable the Constitution itself was. He declined to fix the Constitution or SCOTUS. It had always worked for him, never mind it was only by lucky accidents. 100
Kent Pitman @kentpitman.bsky.social · 04/05/2026This is why Biden was the wrong guy to be anywhere near the presidency. He wanted to say "things really aren't that bad" because straight old christian white guys are not exactly the ones feeling the pain, and it was easier for him to be in denial than for people in other groups or situations. 100
Kent Pitman @kentpitman.bsky.social · 04/05/2026Centrism, by contrast, at least in the world as I have reframed it, is again not about the political proposes one advances, and their moderate nature, but rather about denying that there ARE problems, that those problems are big, or that merely-proportional solutions to huge problems are proper. 120
Kent Pitman @kentpitman.bsky.social · 04/05/2026Seeing "progressive" as an awareness of problems is a key mental shift to do. Kent Pitman @kentpitman.bsky.social · 04/05/2026I've shifted my sense of "progressive" to be about the proposals they make but about the awareness and compassion they show for problems some seem willing to deny. Kent Pitman @kentpitman.bsky.social · 12/12/2025The problem isn't that the middle class or poor collectively work too little, it's all the subtle ways the rich set policy for all without always rewarding them for unitemized-yet-real&good deeds done.
