Bougie bean nacho is maybe the best thing I’ve made in 2026. I cooked a pot of Soldier Beans— a Northeastern heirloom bean that’s somewhere between a navy bean and a pinto bean — with a chopped up head of hard neck garlic, a small onion, and herbs and spices on the stove till tender. Had the hot …

Headline: “US senators propose legislation to limit ICE arrests and indefinite detention” At first reading I thought this meant that ICE agents might actually be arrested for crimes they’ve committed. May we someday get so far on the timeline.

I made a classic recipe tonight: Start Cooking One Thing In A Skillet And See Where You End Up. We ended up at brothy stir fried vegetables with (leftover) sliced pork tenderloin and ramen noodles. There was a random sweet potato in there. It was good.

The media should be as loud about credible reporting on Susan Collins taking bribes as it was about Gross Platner’s credible rape account —because BOTH of these things make you unfit for public office

Lately it feels a bit like I tuck my brain into a roller coaster car at the beginning of a workday and then send it off to do *all sorts of weird magic stuff* and then help it stumble off the ride and back into home reality at the end of the day

Our dog Freyja is attracted to fox poop on walks, which smells absolutely rancid. Her instinct is to rub it on her neck floof. After she gets home, she REALLY wants to cuddle with her humans and rub her floof stank all over them. She’s at her snuggliest when she smells the worst 🥴

As a consumer, I like the options that let me order remotely on my phone and have things brought to my car at a take out restaurant or store —it allows flexibility in decision making and fast pickup. But as soon as I have to go INTO the store and use a kiosk and wait around in there , I detest it.

My soup game has improved 5000% since I started adding corncobs to the broth, and also always use a bit of some kind of lentil or bean. Deeper flavor, more variety in texture, more satisfying.

I made a “house purse” this weekend. It’s a basket/tote/bag to carry the basic items you want to have at hand if you’re chillin in any area of your home. Mine has my planner, sketchbook, current hand sewing project, water bottle, fave pens, reading glasses. I love it.

A dark blue fake fur covered rectangular box with a floral covered carrying strap and a felt lining sits on a houndstooth ottoman, holding an orange tumbler and various items, while a corgi rests on a rug in the background

I think I just had my peak tomato experience of the summer with an unassuming looking slicing tomato from a local farm store You never know from just looking at the outside if it’s gonna be a mind blowing tomato or not. This one was epic. Had it on an open faced cheeseburger with pickled onion.

Cooked 50/50 well-rinsed brown lentils and farro in a rice cooker on the multigrain setting with a bunch of taco seasoning powder and some bouillon powder + water (I just guess how much water and it’s always fine). It’s SO good in a burrito with salsa and cheese and avocado/ whatever other fixings.

One ugh about AI in dev processes is that I can submit a pr for something I know nothing about in front end code or a language I don’t know and it’s described with a detailed spec in a formal way. Which I don’t want— I want it to be clear and simply show how little I know to the reviewer, TBH

Local Job Lots store had some very nice and affordable shallow planters for succulents. I have some perlite and well draining succulent potting mix for these — not in the photo. Have finally figured out that I have being using potting soil that’s too high moisture for these over the years.

Been dealing with fatigue lately— I think low iron has been part of it, yay aging. But have found that doing basic embroidery on clothes I already have is an amusing thing I can do even when I’m pretty zonked.

Photo of a black sweatshirt where KIRKLAND printed in all caps has been stitch around in peach and a surrounding box detail has been outlined in green stitches. I’m sitting outside on a Sunday day and my corgi friend Freyja is sitting in the photo’s background.

Scored some local Maine beans from a farm store. Soaked these and made a thick, rich soup, cooking them with tomatoes, shallots, lotsa garlic, and stock, finished with a handful of de-stemmed chopped kale and a good bit of citrus. We had beans with buttered sourdough toast on the deck, SO GOOD.

I love it when I learn something about user behavior that helps me encapsulate what software needs to support simply and more clearly. Like if you work at a store, some periodic tasks are best worked on together as a group. So that’s a “sometimes hot path”, prone to occasional usage surges.

Susan Collins walks out of a burning house holding an empty bottle of lighter fluid, turns to the assembled crowd: 'Stop politicizing the arson!' #MEpolitics

NYT article: In January, Ms. Collins declined to call for Ms. Noem to step down after ICE agents killed two U.S. citizens in Minnesota, splitting with two of her centrist Republican Senate colleagues, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Thom Tillis of North Carolina.

On Tuesday, Ms. Collins suggested that Democrats were politicizing the shooting, and that their attacks on her were “absurd.”
