I agree that we should not single out women who appear to be the reanimated undead, brought back to feast upon the souls of the innocent. but stephen miller is available for including in that category, he is RIGHT THERE.

Oh awesome! I use mine so often that I'm tempted to buy a second set for when these run dry.

Maybe I need to start a series of petitions for the Costco Arts and Crafts department to be established formally. they have a TikTok account now, I could lobby them

Yes! They had this set on sale at Costco for a brief time, it contains fine line, medium, and large markers of a pretty good range of colors. Had an excellent price. I wish they sold them all the time.

I’ve seen a few folks comment that “Guinea-Bissau is a low income country and cannot afford the hep B vaccine birth dose, so why is this study unethical?” It’s a good question. Let me have a go at answering it. In a nutshell, researchers cannot ethically exploit poverty & scarcity to do a trial

Altoid tins are so good! I recently purchased a bunch of mints from Costco, my selection was highly influenced by which option came with tins. They are so nice to open/ use for the mints, and then for ~TBD~ after

Random Sunday morning craft project: upcycling empty prescription bottles to be a bit more pretty, they will hold sewing needles and notions.
Photo of a prescription bottle with the body covered in a wrapping of tangerine colored cotton macrame cord -!4 the top decorated with a floral pattern using paint pens. The paint pends lie in their case, under the small bottle.

Mix ingredients with enough egg white to moisten, then spread on parchment and cook on tray at ~285F for an hour. Let cool for 30 mins before breaking into chunks. Couple chunklets are a fast filling breakfast, protein and fiber to keep it filling, nutrition from seeds & nuts. Nutella/choc for joy.

Egg whites as a granola binder is so easy and great. Did a quick batch last night with oats, pepitas, chia, the last bits in some bags of almonds and cashews we needed to use, some nutella mixed into the wet mix. A few choc chips allowed to melt on top when it was cooling. Bit of salt.

I forgot about the name “Spuyten Duyvil” — those words are really fun to pronounce and have such character. And then the neighborhood next to the one with that name is “Riverdale” like the comics. NY has great regional naming.

I would often do morning jogs across the bridge from marble hill to manhattan to do some loops in a nearby park, and i could think of it as a two borough run

Lately I more frequently mention that our attic is awfully small for me to move into and perhaps we should use my income to improve it while the government allows me to be employed 🫠

I lived in Marble Hill for years. It’s a wonderful community of people from many cultures. I enjoyed reading while my clothes spun at the laundromat and kids played nearby. A man made fantastic Cubano sandwiches next door, a lady made homemade tamales each week. Abolish ICE.

The Era of The Shared SQL Server Database is Finally Ending
For more than 20 years, small and medium SaaS companies have built on a shared SQL Server database. Agentic development now lands new business rules on those shared tables fast enough to cut velocity ...

I could watch or listen to a show with Mel, Sue, and Mary on any topic, I think. I’ve got a bit of a Gordon Ramsay allergy, which has made Master Chef hard to watch consistently. Not as strong as my Bobby Flay allergy, so I have seen some, though. The Kids version I’ve seen has been ok.

Headline: “US senators propose legislation to limit ICE arrests and indefinite detention” At first reading I thought this meant that ICE agents might actually be arrested for crimes they’ve committed. May we someday get so far on the timeline.

My mom is INCREDIBLY ANTI-CABBAGE (except for coleslaw, which is a totally different food according to the law of nature in her universe ). The first time I encountered cooked cabbage was at a Chinese restaurant, and I had no idea what it was. (It was delicious.)

Ohhhh that sounds good. We have a place nearby that makes the most AMAZING French fry baskets, idk how they do it but their frier game is top tier. We didn’t have that this summer, maybe we will catch it this week if they’re still open.

One of the key lessons of Broke Student Cooking also works for Lazy Adult Cooking: a cheap way to extend meals is to keep a pantry of canned beans and tomatoes and to have cabbage, potatoes, and frozen peppers on hand if you can. Relatively small amounts in dishes makes meals feel real AND cheaper.

Oh there were some chickpeas in there, too. I wouldn’t normally do chickpeas in a brothy ramen dish but — it worked! Improvisational cooking learned as a broke student has paid off.

I made a classic recipe tonight: Start Cooking One Thing In A Skillet And See Where You End Up. We ended up at brothy stir fried vegetables with (leftover) sliced pork tenderloin and ramen noodles. There was a random sweet potato in there. It was good.

The media should be as loud about credible reporting on Susan Collins taking bribes as it was about Gross Platner’s credible rape account —because BOTH of these things make you unfit for public office

I am working on having more of an “end of day routine” where I set up stuff to run overnight or plan whether to resume it in the morning. It definitely helps when I do it explicitly.

Our dog Freyja is attracted to fox poop on walks, which smells absolutely rancid. Her instinct is to rub it on her neck floof. After she gets home, she REALLY wants to cuddle with her humans and rub her floof stank all over them. She’s at her snuggliest when she smells the worst 🥴

I was never a *massive* fan of hers, but I read her books and watched the movies , etc. I completely stopped reading/watching entertainment related to her books a couple of years ago. It was SO much easier than I thought it would be, which I think folks are increasingly learning.

As a consumer, I like the options that let me order remotely on my phone and have things brought to my car at a take out restaurant or store —it allows flexibility in decision making and fast pickup. But as soon as I have to go INTO the store and use a kiosk and wait around in there , I detest it.

My soup game has improved 5000% since I started adding corncobs to the broth, and also always use a bit of some kind of lentil or bean. Deeper flavor, more variety in texture, more satisfying.
