Well, my porch goose outfit is done. And I've got a matching overshirt thingy (the #readytosewjames which I think she's actually just decommissioned - a shame as I adore it). Now we need to fill the goose up with a bit of sand and then they can live outside for summer.
I'm standing on my porch, wearing an overshirt with flamingos on it. I'm holding a porch goose who is wearing a dress and sunhat made of the same fabric.Lefty the porch goose, with his little pink dress. It has a collar and patch pockets on both sides of the front, and was actually designed to be a raincoat. The back. It's a bit pooh bear, I think it ought to be longer.

Today's Des pūtangitangi update is not a great one sorry team: we have lost 2 since about 3pm yesterday 😞 You do expect attrition, it's nature after all, and they live in a public space - but it's sad when it happens. This morning everyone seems in fine spirits though. Pragmatic little guys 😅

I have a pūtangitangi update! The Deses Nine are still 9, and oh my gosh they're all just little mischief puffs. It was really horrendous weather this morning when we kitted up and went walking but it was so worth it to see my little darlings! They've been in the creek for days but it's well up.

Ngaire's porch goose analog is going to get a flamingo themed dress 😂

& get this: Gladys the goose, who left the park a while ago and has been a lot more mobile around town lately, has hooked up with [what I'm .. unreliably told is] a young male in the park across the road. We go and see her every so often and discovered the new boyfriend ALSO has a busted wing? 🪶🇳🇿

And, one of the Goldie sisters hatched her clutch the other day and she's managed to keep all 8 so far. Which is frankly a miracle, seeing as she's a mallard. I think her boyfriend is helping out though. Interestingly none of them are yellow (Goldie was a yellow!!! chick) #nzbirds

My darling pūtangitangi ducklings are still thriving, and they're huge! Still 9 little Deses. They've mostly been in the creek, and I think it's safer as they're still being targeted by enemy females. Today one dive bombed them as I watched, rude. But Lefty saw her off. #nzbirds

I finished my #sewliberateddungivendress the other day and have worn it ever since as a duster, despite my suspicion that actually I made a fashion labcoat. It's comfy as. Like a robe, basically. I recommend.

This morning it was swimming in the creek practice for the little pūtangitangi Deses (still 9!). They'd managed to get the whole clan up a little waterfall even. Might pop back this evening to see if they're back at the pond. #nzbirds

Today we sat down with Ngaire, Lefty and the nine babies (all named Des) for half an hour. I got these 3 minutes of true pūtangitangi whānau ASMR - one clip is muted sorry because you really don't deserve to be subjected to the AI Parkrun songs. But otherwise lots of lovely Ngaire clucks #nzbirds

I did actually get some #garmentsewing done too. This is the #sewliberateddungivendress, sleeves and collar and hem facing still to add. I love these weird little pleats. I've got a set of leggings + sports bra for a test too, that I have to get photos of tomorrow and hopefully can share soon 👀

Doing a #garmentsewing test at the moment, two very cool patterns that will both I think have a place in my wardrobe long term. But jeeeeeez spaghetti straps?!
4 spaghetti straps, 2 pink and 2 grey. They have been painstakingly turned with a bodkin that is also visible.A scrunchy seam with spaghetti straps popping out the top. When they're pulled tight the fabric either side of the seam scrunches

We frequently carry on down the creek at the moment, to check on Mrs Goose from the park (she seems to have made her way down in search of love and got stranded (insert 'Where the hell is my Husband' here). Yestrday we also found a PENGUIN (who was collected by the colony). And ducklings. #nzbirds

Oh boy oh boy I've made the most extra pair of jeans I've ever owned #garmentsewing These are made in Liberty denim and they're mostly the #truebiaslanderpants, but with the curved waistband from #sewhouse7oxbowpants. Also I adjusted the hell out of them, they have a pretty challenging crotch.

#garmentsewing project coming up... #truebiaslanderpants. This is Liberty denim 💀💀 I adjusted the absolute daylights out of this pattern and I'm looking forward to this pair of jeans. I think I'm even mentally committing to flat felling the seams ...

Detail and inside pictures! I love making shirts 👀 collars and plackets and cuffs, oh my (no cuff on this iteration though). This is such nice soft cotton. Flat felled and fully finished throughout. Handmade Liberty tag. #garmentsewing
Tag made of abstract leaf print fabric in purple and cream, sewn into a white+purple shirt collar. KF 26 written on it.Short sleeve shirt hangs, inside out. It has fully enclosed sleeve and side seams. Collar and button placket are visible The back, inside out, you can see the yoke which cuts across the high shoulder. And the flat felled sleeve seam and double fold hem.

Here's another of my #garmentsewing outfit videos. Things I've been wearing in September. We're coming into spring in NZ now and yeeeeeah It's very evident I have seasonal faves 😂 Loafs of #greenstyle, #sewhouse7 and #fibremood featuring this month.

Today I might just cut out my final Landers in this Liberty denim. This was a real Find at the Fabricabrac, and so funny because I'd been eyeing up that denim when it was for sale retail. I managed to talk myself out of it then regretted it 😂 got it in the end! #truebiaslanderpants #garmentsewing
This photographs a lot redder than it is. It's a warm, bright orange 🍊. It also has multicoloured splatter type speckles.

I had this fun, wafty sort of macrame mesh that I'd picked up at the destash sale. And I've had the idea stuck in my head about a fashiony tabard. The #fibremoodhodatop filled the brief pretty well. I went rogue on the instructions and bound the whole thing with FOE. Surprisingly little fuss.

I finally got on the bandwagon and sewed up a #sewhouse7remyraglan. With the gathered sleeves. This is lovely lightweight cotton and will do nicely for summer! It didn't take as much fabric as expected, even with the extra big sleeves. Only 1.8m on narrow loom cotton.

The other thing I have been turning Liberty scraps into: scent sachets. Very low waste if you're open to irregular shapes. Long life laundry scent beads in them, you know the ones that are pretty rough on your washing machine but smell outrageously good 👀 scrap busting woo! #sewing
4 scent sachets, all different random vaguely trapezoidal shapes. They're made of liberty poplin with an abstract leaf print and they're purple black and cream. They have purple hanging ribbons. They're laying on a pile of scraps of a liberty lawn called Crescendo. It's blue with flying swans on it.

I've been enjoying cutting my tiniest liberty scraps into very cute tags. I do a batch up every so often between projects, then I've got a nice stack to sew in, no muss no fuss #garmentsewing
18 tags and 2 cardboard templates for this tags. Some of the tags are a purple, black, cream abstract leaf print and some are white with a tiny leaf print. Some are small landscape format tags and some are tall portrait ones.

I made up another #patternemporiumonrepeat woven tee. I had only a short length of this fabric and I was delighted to get this out of 1.1m. I could have done longer sleeves but I wanted to try the short. It really feels like a tshirt, I love it. And such a pleasant speedy sew #garmentsewing

I made up the new #patternemporiumonrepeat woven tee. This is a toile (hence this oddball fabric.. reminds me of 90s bus seat covers) which had a few purposes. Fit, ofc, but also I tried a full bicep adjustment. I would say reasonably successful. I love the boatneck. I want armscye one size bigger.
In wearing a stripey top. It's tshirt shaped with a boatneck, cutting wide and high over my shoulders, and 3/4 sleeves. The print is abstract stripes and the colour palette is sort of brutalist disco. Hands by my sides. This has a one inch hem on sleeves and bodice. Bodice also has a little slit in each side seam and I like the method used for this, though I'll mod my next one to have a double fold hem.Side view. I'm very happy with the amount of ease in my sleeve. The length is just north of my wrist. The back. This neckline is faced btw. I also quite like the method of doing the facings. You sew them onto front and back separately and then cleverly fold them together when you sew the shoulder seam.

This is your first (mute me if you have to 😅) reminder to vote for Ngaire and Lefty, a.k.a. pūtangitangi/ paradise shelducks #birdoftheyear2026 - they are the absolute biggest personalities and unsung heroes in Aotearoa. Overseas friends, you can vote too! A BIRD ELECTION. www.birdoftheyear.org.nz
Ngaire, a chestnut coloured shelduck with white head, and Lefty, a black shelduck with chestnut tail feathers, are standing amongst fallen orange leaves and sparse agapanthus. There's a food box next to Ngaire and a pond in the background.Lefty, a black shelduck, is floating in a pond. He's contrasted in a bright white reflection with circular ripples around him and he's lifting his bill up taking a drink. You can see the ghosts of stones below him, but the water is murky.Ngaire stands on a brilliant green lawn, weight on her left foot. She's looking to the left, showing her full outer selection of wing feathers which range from white through bottle green and chestnut, all the way to charcoal and black. Here's a screenshot of bird of the year showing the pūtangitangi candidate. Who ought to be your number one, but if you're repping another lovely manu Ngaire is happy to accept second 😇 she's so humble.

Okay so we want some duckling content, right? First ducklings at the park!! And Ngaire and Lefty are definitely nesting, possibly since as early as Aug 13, so their little cutie humbugs aren't far off. Two of the Goldie sisters AWOL too so I suspect we might have little yellow babes coming. 🪶🇳🇿

Here's my #truebiaslanderpants toile. I really like these and they're comfy - and I think I got the fit 95% of the way there on flat pattern adjusting. Okay I've finished the first of two toiles in my mini matching toile project. This is #nhpatternsaprilblouse and I'm glad I toiled it because it's marginally small & I'll go up a size on the shoulders & armscye for my next one. This is a cotton voile or Batiste or something. Lovely!

In #garmentsewing news I've washed these two fabrics for wearable toiles. The stripes are trousers and the flowers a blouse. And I thought, potentially quite nice if they match. #truebiaslanderpants and #nhpatternsaprilblouse are the patterns.
Two fabrics hang in the sun. They're both green. GREEN. LIME GREEN. One is a canvas with stripes, and one is a voile with little abstract flowers in a ditsy print. The front side of the flower fabric, and you can also see that it's quite sheer

They claimed them before I even cut them out 😂😂 Thank you! I must admit I am pretty well furnished with house clothes (and yet still plotting to turn a quilt into a dressing gown lol). The other thing I'm considering is dying them darker. I'd initially thought black but a deep forest green?? 🤔

I had to make another pair of my park walking pants and so I whipped these up. Cotton French terry #greenstylevolareleggings - exactly the same as my other pair except that those are dark blue. Pale grey feels like quite a departure lol. Will I be brave enough to wear out of the house? Hm. Comfy tho
I'm wearing grey leggings which are fitted over the butt and upper thigh and then loosen off above the knee to a flared hem.The front, with my cream coloured polka dot asymmetrical tshirt untucked over the waistband. The back, tucked in. Very nice fit for the curvier of arse like meFront again with my top tucked in. They have a faux foldover waistband.
