"Thou shalt get only as creative with names as thine own skill with regular expressions." I'm really bad at naming files and really good at regular expressions, so everything is fine right @jennybryan.bsky.social ? 😆

Not @healthandstats.bsky.social finally demystifying what a "skill" is in the last talk of #positconf2026, after it's been mentioned in 1000 times in the last 2 days, and I kept nodding and smiling like "oh yes I definitely know what that is". 😅

From @mcmullarkey.bsky.social at #positconf2026: {blendtutor} for popping up R/python exercises with AI-driven feedback! Love the hyper minimal YAML structure to create simple exercises.
This is a working example

2 Language: R
3 exercise:
type: "Function writing"

This talk by @tigertang.bsky.social is my favorite of #positconf2026 so far, and is going in my "instant classics" pile: tigertang.org/posit_2026/ It's a super clear, actionable framework for how learning happens and how AI can be used to help not hinder. ✨

"Data science depends on a lot of context that can't be accessed by an agent. Maybe it lives online somewhere, maybe it's on a piece of paper, maybe it's inside the head of that one coworker who has been there 15 years." - @sara-altman.bsky.social 🙌

While this poem doesn't fully resonate with me today, it's beautifully written, and a good reminder to try to think about the people and ideals worth fighting for, not just on the ones we are fighting against.

PATRIA
You do not love her less when her skirts are torn, Her standard bloody, dragging in the mud, Her ankles fettered, chafed, her eyes cast down, Her ghoulish captors dancing her defeat;
This is the time, instead, to love her more, With all the fervency of desperate hope, Which sees, beyond the black horizon, fire That may be battle, or the burst of dawn.

I loved the "Hmmmmmm" in the crowd when @jcheng5.bsky.social showed this data quality problem uncovered by the #positron Databot tool. No human caught this during the Tidy Tuesday for the data. I've been skeptical of AI for data analysis, but this is an extremely compelling use case. 🫣

An absolute banger of a callout from @minedogucu.com in her USCOTS opening session talk. 😂
Example
Suppose that during a recent doctor's visit, you tested positive for a very rare disease.
If you only get to ask the doctor one question, which would it be?
a. What's the chance that I actually have the disease given that I tested positive?
b. If in fact I don't have the disease, what's the chance that I would've gotten this positive test result?

The result of being in the "Writing poetry about statistics" workshop at #USCOTS2025 while all my friends are in the Positron one.... (This one's for you @minecr.bsky.social and @posit.co 😘)
Do you want to reposition
all your panes in IDEs?
Is it in your disposition
to set shortcuts on your keys?

Do you hate the imposition
when RStudio full crashes?
Do you want more exposition
of your Git and GitHub caches?

Is your work a composition
of both R code and python?
Then you’re in a great position
To start trying Positron!
