When people post 'LLM (Large Language Model)' in their paragraph (the acronym used and then spelled out) is now on the list with an (1)outline slide, (2)posting your linkedin username on a ppt, (3)spelling out RADAR, and (4)saying kleenex is a brand not the product.

i feel compelled to remind everyone that chatgpt/LLMs are functionally the *opposite* of an actual expert. the more your problems are unusual or novel, the more likely LLMS are to be wrong. they are least helpful when it's most important
a table labeled "How common is your problem, how helpful is the response?"

There are three columns labeled common, rare, and novel and two rows labeled Actual Human Expert and LLM.

Common problem, human expert: helpful
Rare problem, human expert: more helpful
Novel problem, human expert: most helpful
Common problem, LLM: helpful
Rare problem, LLM: unhelpful
Novel problem, LLM: harmful

Gone are the days of waking up early to run before a conference talk, staying out until midnight with FOMO after the last talk. Glad for conferences that fill my science cup, but also glad to be going home to a squishy baby who thinks mom is an android in the baby monitor waking her up.

Candy review: nerd gummy clusters are good on a long run, but they're so small you have to eat a LOT to replace 'normal' running fuel and that's almost not worth the hassle. Do they make large nerd gummy clusters that hit somewhere between the halloween size and a rope?

For the first time in all of my 18 years living out of my parents' house, I will have a sibling live within 15 minutes of my house (!!!).

My brother came to the sibling wedding this last weekend with a full mullet and i've never been more proud of how committed he was to the bit. His whole outfit was the mullet theme: pearl snap western shirt, almost bolo tie, just chef's kiss.

After a weirdly hostile meeting (weird because I thought that was like...unprofessional and didn't happen these days), my students made my day with their weather observation assignment on yesterday's landspout and lightning. They're finally seeing all the things we talk about in class.

While I can't shop for a house based solely on holes in our slow antenna network, I can and did ask for upgraded grounding in the repair amendment. I'd like to think our realtor passed on the fact that I work in lightning physics, but in reality the seller likely wanted to give a quick yes.

Everytime I have a meeting with my optical modeling counterpart it's like being in a PhD quals Q&A but slightly more positive. But only slightly because then I also spend the next two weeks trying to implement what we talked about my notes are just "slab...3Dcloud, voxel texture..." what.
