Really nice debut for Aday Mara vs the Pelicans. Moved his feet well to stay with Derik Queen on the move. Took a shoulder from Yves Missi and didn't go backwards before getting the block. This is really good stuff from Mara on the defensive end. Had some nice moments on offense too!

I think Day'Ron Sharpe is in for a big year with the Nets. He should get plenty of minutes as the starting center now. I bet we see Sharpe's passing ability unlocked even more than we've seen before.

Game of Thrones ended poorly. How I Met Your Mother's finale was so bad, it wrecked the whole run for me. The Office got sideways after Michael left, but felt like it recovered enough in the final season to finish solidly.

I liked Nate Ament more than most in the draft process. The talent is there and the motor got better as the year went along too. Ament hit a corner three in this one, but I really liked seeing him get active off the offensive glass for the and-1 putback here.

I really hope Ariel Hukporti gets good news, and he didn't tear his Achilles last night. Unfortunately, it was the classic mechanism we're all too used to seeing. Sixers are pretty thin in true centers behind Joel Embiid with Adem Bona also out. Could be a spot to watch before the season starts.

Matisse Thybulle and Ziaire Williams combined for 5-for-7 deep last night. It won't be that good every game, obviously, but if they're making threes, it changes their playability. Lakers need their defense, but to have them on the floor, they have to make shots. For now, I trust Thybulle more.

Posted last night about how Darius Acuff Jr's pet shot is going to be his elbow pullup. This is good work to get to it here. Ziaire Williams is a big/long defender. Acuff gets the pitch from Domantas Sabonis and gets right into the shot before Williams can recover from the screen. Good stuff!

I've talked about how I think Joan Beringer is in for a big year. He looks like he spent a lot of time on his body. He's a lot more filled out this year, especially in the upper body. This sequence is what the Wolves need from him, along with good rim protection. Good end-to-end play here.

No NBA team has ever sustained it for long into the regular season, but the Lakers picking up this deep in the backcourt is an interesting look. It’s a good way to make teams chew up the shot clock before getting into their sets or isolating weaker defenders. Curious if it sticks.

Stray Saturday morning thought: I'm really excited for what the Grizzlies are building. They need some more shooting, maybe a point guard (I do like Scotty Pippen Jr a lot!), and some experience. But they have a lot of really exciting young talent. And they fit together too!

The Grizzlies have to waive or trade two more players from guaranteed deals (Jaylen Wells is partial guaranteed but not going anywhere) to get into regular season roster compliance. Memphis eats $7M in dead money for Jordan Hawkins for 26-27. Grizzlies are ~$38.4M under the tax.

I'm not at all worried about paying a very good starting center 21-22% of the cap. Don't focus on the dollars, focus on the percentage of the cap. He landed as the 10th highest paid center, if you must focus on the dollars. That seems very fair for a team only carrying one other massive contract.

They wouldn't need to extend the QO deadline. They can still sign him or sign-and-trade him. Extending the QO deadline just gives Duren more time to sign the QO. I think you also meant 12:00 AM, since the deadline is 11:59 PM.

Some have asked what would happen if Jalen Duren sat out this season or played overseas: He remains an RFA. As long as Detroit issues and maintains a qualifying offer, Duren is an RFA. He only becomes a UFA if he signs and plays on the QO or Detroit rescinds/doesn't issue the QO.
