Sad to note the passing of Ian K Steele this past weekend. His book English Atlantics (Oxford 1986) was one of a trio of books that year establishing the Atlantic World paradigm. Trained first as a Jesuit, then in London, the Canadian praire lad became a gentle scholar and mentor. #AtlanticWorld

Paid a visit to a couple of my fave boulders yesterday. 17km round trip, but worth it.
Two large, somewhat square, erratic boulders. In the foreground a smaller Boulder and small spruce tree. In the background hints of orange Fall foliage. A bright blue Autumn sky

It is #WomensHistoryMonth! Ohtowaˀkéhson (Catharine Brant) was head woman of the turtle clan of the Mohawks. She had much influence among the Six Nations; her opinions counted, and they were a political force to be reckoned with. www.biographi.ca/en/bio/ohtow...
Two people, one seated, and one (Indigenous or in Indigenous clothing) standing, holding a tomahawk, are next to a lake or pond. On the far side of the water is a house on a hill, with many trees. On the near side of the lake is a log cabin with a rail fence.

3/ @bryanbanksphd.bsky.social discusses the exodus of the French Huguenots as an antecedent to the modern concept of a "refugee crisis". He underscores how the Huguenots developed and appropriated a refugee identity for themselves that was not just religious, but also political in nature.
