It's great when the good guys win. Huge congrats to Elon on the SpaceX IPO. What a moment! Without this man there'd be no electric cars. Renewables would be harder. The world would not have its focus on safe AI. But, more than even all of this, the dream of a Human future in space would have died.

Why would any woman ever vote LibDem when the party, from the top down, wants to erase hard-fought women's rights? We need women-only spaces. Men cannot become women. What even is a woman if you believe a man can become one? Abandoning science for ideology is not a good look youtu.be/pFHVV_GcykI?...

Err, after the controlled, soft landing in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Australia, it was meant to burst into flames. That's what rockets with some remaining fuel which have just returned to the surface through the atmoshere, and are extraordinarily hot, will do when touching the ocean surface.

Happy St George's Day! Also William Shakespeare's birthday and death day, Johnny Mackintosh's birthday and World Book Day (everywhere outside of the UK). Here's Saint George, the Bard, Johnny and the Spirit of London flying overhead! #StGeorgesDay
a landscape scene full of English flags, with the Tower of London centred in the background. In the foreground we see St George atop a white stallion with a spear attacking a green dragon, while a smiling William Shakespeare looks on, having just handed a glowing magical book to Johnny Mackintosh. Overhead Johnny's spaceship, the Spirit of London (in the shape of the London Gherkin) soars amid fireworks celebrating Stg George's Day.

But 1 ft per second is a loooong way below escape velocity, so surely she couldn't break free of Earth's gravity? No heliopause or well aimed trip to Proxima Centauri.

Books change lives. Very occasionally, I've heard that of my own books, & it's the most wonderful thing for an author when that happens. Yesterday I received this message out of the blue & of course it made my day. If a book's made an impression on you, leave a great review. Let the author know.
Text of a message which reads:

"THANK YOU
Dear Keith,

I'd like to thank you for writing 50 AI ideas. Months back I picked up a signed copy and have read it cover to cover.

As a result of reading your book I was spurred on to taking an MA in Artificial Intelligence which I have just started."

Keep up the good work and thanks once again!

What a terrible thing for the family to learn their son has become so radicalized he's a murderer, and for the good of society they have to turn him in. What an utter, horrific tragedy.

Sounds a fun course, though The Orvill never succeeded as it should have - no surprise it's unknown. Curious why your text should be "freely available" rather than paid for? I'm at Penguin nowadays but used to publish textbooks for Addison-Wesley. As you'll know, creating a great text is hard work.

Wrong subs at the wrong time, but we always knew it would be hard. The Eustace experiment of Adams as a number 10 doesn't work - we need him and Ozoh as the defensive pivot, especially given our ageing, half-fit defence. But what a gorgeous goal from Morris, hopefully a glimpse of what's to come.

Starmer doesn't need any help. He's out of his depth and dragging the whole country down to the bottom with him. Surely a candidate for worst PM and worst administration ever. Throughout this presser, and every day, he's just a rabbit in the headlights. 14 years of Tories then this! Frying pan/fire.

The industry punches massively above its weight in terms of media profile, but the sad reality is there is not much money in publishing. It's such an interesting and stimulating industry to work in, but wages are low and hours are long. And few authors can make a good living from it full time.

Intriguing issue. I'm reminded of Douglas Adams' adage about technology. Those born into an AI world will see it as the most natural thing to aid their writing and storytelling. On the other hand, in a chess tournament for instance, how much if any assistance is (Superhuman) AI allowed to give?

Thank goodness someone is speaking out about the systematic gang rape of tens of thousands of working class white girls. A shame The Guardian doesn't appear outraged by this the biggest scandal in UK history, but instead criticises people for speaking out. You'd rather we all looked the other way?
000
Keith Mansfield @keithmansfield.bsky.social · 04/01/2025
It's the biggest scandal in British history. The numbers are vast. Maybe not 250k but certainly of the order of tens of thousands. All swept under the carpet due to institutional cowardice by politicians, police & media, working class white girls sacrificed in the name of racial harmony. Thanks Elon

The economic and military future of Humanity lies off-planet. Hence the goldrush of all these Chinese companies to be a part of it, always brilliantly documented by Andrew. A cause of sadness is that the UK and the rest of Europe are being left far behind, bereft of future technological sovereignty.

You're the expert, but I do think QM is important because it tells us something remarkable about the nature of reality, that we've not quite grasped. Without that, electromagnetism is the discovery that has (literally) powered Human progress. Indeed Newton's invention of science changed everything.
